Today, December 25th, while much of the world celebrates Christmas, Ukraine sends a message that transcends the material. It does so not with speeches or proclamations, but with a deeply symbolic commemorative silver coin that looks to the future with a wish as simple as it is necessary: peace.

The coin, issued under the name "Dukh Rizdva" (The Spirit of Christmas), has a face value of 10 hryvnias. It is not intended for circulation or exchange: it is a non-circulating coin, created to be kept, admired, and remembered. A coin that buys nothing, but says a lot.

Ukrainian Christmas as a refuge and hope

In Ukraine, Christmas is a time for reflection, remembrance, and family togetherness. On Christmas Eve, known as Sviatyi Vechir, the home is transformed into a sacred space where ancestors are honored and protection is sought for the coming year.

The didukh, sheaves of wheat symbolizing the harvest and the spirit of the ancestors, are placed in the pokut, the place of honor in the home. Twelve meatless dishes are laid out on the table, including the kutia, as an omen of a new cycle filled with harmony. In this context, Christmas is not just tradition: it is an act of spiritual resistance.

The coin «Дух Різдва» transforms this entire symbolic universe into artistic and numismatic language, proposing a powerful idea: peace begins at home.

A design full of symbols

The obverse features a stylized straw diduk, decorated with delicate local goldwork. At its base appears a straw angel, a messenger of protection and good tidings.
The background is divided into two planes that evoke a starlit window on Christmas night. In one of them shines a diamond, symbol of the Star of Bethlehem, a spiritual guide and promise of light.

The composition is completed with the legend УКРАЇНА, the year 2025, the small state shield and the face value 10 accompanied by the graphic symbol of the hryvnia .

The reverse depicts an intimate and profoundly human scene: a family gathered for Christmas Eve dinner. The father, mother, and children are identified with celestial bodies by golden halos.

the Moon (the husband),

and the stars (the children).

Before them, a table laden with twelve traditional dishes — kutia, varenyky, pampukhy, fish, and other foods—along with cloves of garlic, an ancient talisman against evil forces. The scene conveys warmth, protection, and continuity: an image of peace as desired and dreamed of.

Emisiune numismatica cu tema Istoria aurului – Plăcuțele votive de la Germisara

Începând cu data de 29 decembrie 2025, Banca Națională a României lansează în circuitul numismatic o monedă din aur cu tema Istoria aurului – Plăcuțele votive de la Germisara.

Caracteristicile monedei sunt următoarele:

Aversul monedei prezintă detalii ale plăcuțelor votive descoperite la Geoagiu-Băi (Germisara), valoarea nominală „10 LEI”, inscripția „ROMANIA”, stema României și anul de emisiune „2025”.

Reversul monedei redă un detaliu reprezentând-o pe zeița Diana la vânătoare, inscripțiile „PLACUTELE VOTIVE DE LA GERMISARA” și „ISTORIA AURULUI” în arc de cerc.

Monedele din aur sunt ambalate în capsule de metacrilat transparent și sunt însoțite de broșuri de prezentare și certificate de autenticitate, redactate în limbile română, engleză și franceză. Pe certificatele de autenticitate se găsesc semnăturile guvernatorului BNR și casierului central.

Tirajul maxim pentru moneda din aur este de 1.000 piese.

Preţul de vânzare pentru moneda din aur este 1.500,00 lei, exclusiv TVA, inclusiv broșura de prezentare și certificatul de autenticitate.

Monedele din aur cu tema Istoria aurului – Plăcuțele votive de la Germisara au putere circulatorie pe teritoriul României.

Lansarea în circuitul numismatic a acestor monede se realizează prin sucursalele regionale Bucureşti, Cluj, Constanța, Dolj, Iaşi şi Timiş ale Băncii Naţionale a României.

Pieptar cu ciucuri (Bistrița-Năsăud)

Exponatul săptămânii: „Pieptar cu ciucuri (Bistrița-Năsăud)”

Cojocul este o piesă de port popular românesc integrată ansamblului vestimentar din majoritatea zonelor etnografice ale țării. Meșteșugul cojocăritului s-a dezvoltat din necesități climatice și din faptul că blana de miel a fost un material la îndemâna tuturor, acolo unde păstoritul a constituit o ocupație primordială.

Această piesă vestimentară a dobândit în timp o semnificație ceremonială cu valențe apotropaice. Pieptarele din blană au fost îmbrăcate la ocazii festive, la nuntă, la horă, la târg și, totodată, au reprezentat o marcă identitară și de afirmare socială.
Specific zonei etnografice Bistrița-Năsăud este pieptarul bărbătesc cu ciucuri. Acesta este lucrat din blană albă de miel, este deschis în față și prezintă o cromatică vie datorată în principal ciucurilor realizați din mătase policromă.

Pe piepții și spatele pieptarului apar broderii florale lucrate cu lânică frez, verde, albastră, galbenă și maro. Acestora li se asociază aplicații din piele neagră cu ornamente ștanțate.
Piesa este lucrată la jumătatea secolului trecut într-unul din numeroasele ateliere meșteșugărești din Bistrița, renumite pentru produsele lor.

Cine este creatura care „dispare” iarna și reapare… complet albă?
Dacă ai impresia că prin zăpadă se mișcă o mică fantomă agilă, iar într-o clipă dispare, e posibil să fi întâlnit una dintre cele mai elegante vietăți din ținuturile noastre. Hermina, un prădător mic, dar fascinant, își schimbă complet haina odată cu venirea iernii — transformarea ei pare magie, dar este biologie pură.

Haina regală a iernii
Hermina (Mustela erminea) este celebră pentru blana sa de iarnă: complet albă, cu vârful cozii negru — un contrast spectaculos care i-a făcut blana faimoasă în toată istoria europeană. Blana albă a herminei a devenit simbol al purității și al statutului, fiind folosită pentru mantii regale și veșminte ceremoniale.

De ce unele hermine devin albe, iar altele nu?
Transformarea nu este universală. Herminele din regiunile nordice, unde iernile sunt lungi și acoperite de zăpadă, devin complet albe pentru un camuflaj perfect. Mai spre sud, unde zăpada este rară sau instabilă, multe hermine rămân în blana lor brună de vară sau trec doar parțial în alb, rezultând apariții pestrițe, ideale pentru un peisaj variabil.

Ce declanșează această schimbare?
Surprinzător, nu frigul este cel care transformă hermina. Schimbarea este controlată de fotoperioadă — durata zilei. Pe măsură ce zilele se scurtează, corpul herminei primește semnalul hormonal pentru schimbarea blănii. Acest mecanism funcționează chiar și dacă temperatura nu este foarte scăzută, semn că lumina este „ceasul” biologic după care se ghidează.
