Un nou set numismatic din Olanda - 15.01.2026

Utilizați butonul de Translate din dreapta pagini pentru traducere.

The Netherlands has recently released the first BU quality Euroset of the year, a collection that inaugurates a new thematic series inspired by the country's mythology and folk tales.

The annual Eurosets for the period between 2026 and 2030 will be dedicated to stories of local tradition, full of mystery, symbolism and moral lessons, evoking a time when the supernatural was part of the collective imagination.

Over the course of these years, the Royal Dutch Mint will pay tribute, in no particular order, to five of the most representative legends of Dutch folklore: the Basilisk of Utrecht, the White Women, the Flying Dutchman, the Buckriders and the Lady of Stavoren.

Euroset The Basilisk of Utrecht (2026)

On the Oudegracht canal in Utrecht, at numbers 209-211, a plaque tells an old story. There once stood an inn here where merchants drank beer after work, unaware that a basilisk lived in the cellar.

This terrifying creature, born from a rooster's egg incubated by a snake or a toad, had the body of a dragon, the head and legs of a rooster, and deadly serpentine eyes. A single glance was enough to turn you to ash. Anyone who entered the basement never returned.

Many armed heroes tried to defeat the monster, but none succeeded. Until a young man appeared. He blindfolded himself, descended the stairs, and confronted the creature. As the basilisk hissed and roared, the boy held up a mirror. The monster looked directly into its own eyes and turned to ash.

Brilliant Uncirculated (BU)

The Netherlands' annual Euroset for 2026 includes the eight regular circulation coins, all of which are dated within the current year.

This series is presented in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality, a feature that guarantees the use of new dies and a brighter finish on the pieces.

The set has an official retail price of €34.95 in the Netherlands, and is limited to a maximum of 10,000 copies.

Noi monede comemorative din Olanda - 05.10.2025

To highlight the importance of national heritage, the Royal Netherlands Mint has launched a new issue in the "UNESCO World Heritage" series. This is the eleventh coin in this collection, and this time it is dedicated to the Netherlands Water Defence Lines.

Dutch Defence Water Lines

In the Netherlands, a country where water has been both an ally and a threat throughout the centuries, one of the most ingenious defensive solutions in history emerged: the Water Defence Lines. This system, now recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is not just a set of fortifications, but a masterpiece of engineering that transforms the landscape into a strategic weapon.

The idea that gave rise to these lines is as simple as it is brilliant: flood fields and polders in a controlled manner to halt the enemy. Deep enough to impede foot traffic, but too shallow to allow ships to navigate, the water became an almost impenetrable natural barrier. This principle began to be applied in the 16th century, during the Dutch struggle for independence, and was refined during the 18th and 19th centuries, when the nation consolidated a structured defense system spanning tens of kilometers.

Among its most iconic elements is the Stelling van Amsterdam, a ring of fortifications built between 1880 and 1914 around the capital, designed to be flooded in the event of an invasion. Later, the New Dutch Water Line extended this concept to an even wider territory, incorporating 96 forts, dikes, locks, canals, and pumping stations that, together, formed a continuous system capable of protecting the political and economic heart of the country. Every element, from the fort to the lock, was precisely thought out, demonstrating a profound understanding of both hydraulic engineering and military strategy.

What makes these waterways unique is not only their effectiveness as a defense, but also the way they integrate the landscape and everyday life with the protection of the territory. The fortifications blend in with nature and the villages, the dikes and canals serve multiple functions, and water itself takes center stage. UNESCO recognizes them for their Outstanding Universal Value, not only for their technical ingenuity, but also as an example of how humans can transform and adapt to the environment in creative and sustainable ways.

After being deactivated as a military system in 1963, the Water Lines have been preserved and restored. Today, visitors can walk their paths and trails, explore the forts and castles, and understand firsthand how a country learned to turn its greatest challenge—water—into its most effective defense.

This issue is available in three versions, which share the same obverse and reverse design, differing only in a few specifications, metal, and presentation.

Common design

The coin was designed by Hans Gremmen, who depicted a map of the Netherlands on the reverse , highlighting three key elements: land, water, and military structures. The Dutch landscape is shown in different planes that symbolize the territory; some are shaded to allude to flood zones. A line traces the location of the Dutch Defence Water Lines, while triangles mark the locations of fortresses, castles, and other defensive features along them.

For the obverse , Gremmen created a portrait of King Willem-Alexander, integrating the same visual elements. Water acts as a unifying element in the design, also referencing the monarch's commitment to water management, which he focused on before his investiture.

As is tradition, the Royal Netherlands Mint recently issued a new BU quality Euroset focused on milestones in the lives of the Dutch Royal Family. This year, the issue focuses exclusively on the future of Orange, as Princesses Amalia, Alexia, and Ariana have officially become adults.

Recomandări editoriale: Comorile numismaticii și Comori numismatice, coord. Szasz Carol Adam

The year 2025 marks the 650th anniversary of the Province of Utrecht, a historic event that marked the birth of provincial democracy in the Netherlands. On May 17, 1375, the Stichtse Landbrief was signed in Utrecht , a document in which the three estates—clergy, nobility, and citizens—were given a voice for the first time in decisions regarding government, justice, taxation, and war. The agreement was instigated by Bishop Arnoud van Horne, who, in need of financial resources, was forced to negotiate with the representatives of the territory. Although the motive was practical, the result was a decisive step toward a more participatory form of government that is still celebrated today as a symbol of democratic values.

To pay tribute to this anniversary, the Royal Netherlands Mint has issued the 2025 Mint Day Set, a special edition dedicated entirely to the 650th anniversary of the Province of Utrecht. The set contains the eight 2025 Dutch euro coins in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality, along with a commemorative medal designed specifically for this occasion.

The obverse of the medal features a representation of the province of Utrecht divided into its 26 municipalities. The reverse features the provincial coat of arms accompanied by the text "650 jaar samen" (650 years together), all framed by an elegant decoration. The coins and medal are presented in special packaging that provides additional information (in Dutch) about the history and significance of this anniversary.

This commemorative set is limited to 1,000 pieces. Its retail price in the Netherlands is €39.95.

It's worth remembering that, in addition to this special edition, the standard Euroset with the Netherlands' circulation coins in BU quality was also launched in January 2025.

Un nou set numismatic din Olanda - 17.05.2025

Coins, as a vehicle of culture and a means of communication, can be considered time capsules that reflect specific moments in history. In this context, the 2025 Netherlands Eurosets are closely linked to the national and personal milestones that will mark this year. From 2022 to 2025, the Eurosets are dedicated to the four elements: earth, water, air, and fire. These elements, present in nature, are associated with the seasons, which in turn regulate our annual cycle.

This series began in 2022 with the Earth element, and ends in 2025 with the Fire element.

Annual set with a single medal

The Netherlands 2025 Annual Set in Proof Quality focuses entirely on the element of Fire. Fire represents warmth, energy, and passion, but it also has the potential to be devastating. A small flame can become a huge blaze. Fire is also the only element that needs the others to exist. Oxygen (air) and fuel (earth) are necessary for fire to grow. Water is the element that can extinguish fire. In this way, all the elements come together with the last element in this series.

The Netherlands 2025 Annual Collection in Proof Quality includes a special medal, fully aligned with the element of Fire. The obverse of the medal depicts a phoenix. This mythical creature symbolizes rebirth and immortality. In mythology, the phoenix builds a nest at the end of its life: this nest bursts into flame, and from these flames a new phoenix emerges. Today, this mythical creature also represents recovery after difficult times. On the reverse of the medal is a sun, perhaps the most well-known symbol of fire.

Quality Proof

The euro coins in this series have been minted in Proof quality, the highest quality of minting. Various techniques have been employed to enhance the quality of the coins, such as the use of polished dies and punches. These techniques ensure that the relief stands out beautifully against the background. Proof quality coins are minted individually, are never touched with bare hands, and are stored in capsules to prevent damage.

The Netherlands 2025 Annual Series in Proof quality includes the eight regular circulation coins, all with the current year's mintage, plus a medal.

The retail price of this Euroset in the Netherlands is €85, and its production is limited to a maximum of 2,000 units.

As carriers of culture and means of communication, coins function as a kind of time capsules. Therefore, the Netherlands Eurosets from 2024 are linked to this year's national and personal milestones. In 2022 the series began with the Earth element and in 2024 it continues with the Air element.

The Year of…

The years are remembered through special events that took place, both nationally and personally. In 2024, time is also reserved for some memorable moments, which will be immortalized on a coin or medal. 2024 is the year that commemorates the 200th Anniversary of the Royal Dutch Rescue Society. A commemorative coin will also be issued in honor of the 750th Anniversary of the capital, Amsterdam. Perhaps the year 2024 will be special for you for some other reason. A marriage, birth or anniversary in 2024 is a reason to never forget this year. The Netherlands Annual Collection 2024 in BU quality is the way to always preserve an eternal memory.

Brilliant Uncirculated or Brilliant Uncirculated (BU)

The Euroset is first issued in BU quality. These are the coins that are minted with the new dies. This makes them brighter. The Netherlands Annual Series 2024 in BU quality contains the eight regular circulation coins with mint date of the current year.

The sale price of this Euroset in the Netherlands is €29.95 and its circulation is limited to a maximum of 11,500.
