Noi monede comemorative din Tuvalu - 03.06.2026

Utilizați butonul de Translate din dreapta pagini pentru traducere.

There are series that you watch, talk about, and forget. And then there's Stranger Things, one of those shows capable of creating its own visual universe: bicycles at night, flashing lights, secret laboratories, impossible monsters, and a small town called Hawkins where nothing is as peaceful as it seems.

Now that world leaps from the screen to numismatics with two new coins issued by The Perth Mint, one of the most active mints in the field of popular culture issues. The pieces are part of the Stranger Things collection and transform some of the most recognizable symbols from the Netflix series into legal tender collector's items in Tuvalu.

These aren't conventional coins meant for circulation, but rather issues clearly aimed at modern collectors, those who combine metal, design, film, television, and nostalgia. And in this case, the nostalgia has a very specific name: Hawkins.

When a coin is opened to the “Upside Down World”

The first of the two pieces directly pits Eleven against Vecna, two characters who perfectly encapsulate the series' final showdown. The coin is minted in half an ounce of 99.99% pure silver and features a color reverse depicting them side-by-side, hands outstretched, their powers clashing.

The design plays with a divided composition, as if the coin were split between two realities. Against this backdrop appear vines reminiscent of the Upside Down, that dark, organic, and menacing space that has become one of the defining characteristics of Stranger Things.

The piece also includes subtle nods for the most observant fans: the Surfer Boy Pizza sunglasses associated with Eleven and the stained-glass rose from the Creel house, one of the most unsettling visual elements of the fourth season. Alongside these appear the Stranger Things logo, the Perth Mint's "P" mint mark, and the inscription "YOUR SUFFERING IS ALMOST AT AN END."

It's a coin that's immediately clear: even someone who doesn't know its technical details understands at first glance that it doesn't just represent two characters, but the clash between fear and resistance, between Eleven's wounded childhood and Vecna's devastating darkness.

Hawkins, the town where it all began

The second season shifts the focus. Here, a place, rather than a character, takes center stage: Hawkins, Indiana, the small fictional town that became the epicenter of all the series' mysteries.

The “Welcome to Hawkins” coin features a colorful scene of the town, with the Mind Flayer looming in the background like a colossal threat. Part of the design appears in grayscale to represent the Upside Down, reinforcing that Stranger Things feel: that of an everyday reality that, beneath the surface, hides something much darker.

The reverse features the series logo, the word “HAWKINS,” and The Perth Mint’s “P” mark. The gold finish gives it a striking, visually appealing look, designed to attract collectors who come to numismatics from the world of entertainment.

In this story, Hawkins functions almost as a character. It's not just the setting where things happen: it's the place where Will Byers disappears, where the first cracks to the Upside Down appear, where the gang discovers that monsters don't only exist in role-playing games, and where the aesthetics of the eighties blend with supernatural horror.

Two coins, two ways of counting the series

What's interesting about these episodes is that they don't all follow the same approach. The Eleven and Vecna episode focuses on direct conflict, on the tension between protagonist and villain, on the dramatic moment. The Hawkins episode, on the other hand, encapsulates the atmosphere: the seemingly normal town, the threatening sky, the presence of the Mind Flayer, and that broken boundary between the real world and the Upside Down.

One looks at the characters. The other looks at the mythical territory of the series.

And therein lies much of its appeal for the Spanish reader and collector. It's not simply about "coins from a famous series," but rather a way of immortalizing in metal some of the most recognizable visual icons of recent television culture.

Pop culture is increasingly influencing numismatics

For decades, commemorative coins were primarily associated with historical anniversaries, illustrious figures, heritage, wildlife, art, or major national events. That world remains fundamental, but in recent years a new avenue has emerged strongly: the numismatics of popular culture.

Superheroes, film franchises, video games, television series, and animated characters have all found their place on coins issued by official mints. These are not mere metallic souvenirs: they are numismatic products with limited mintages, certificates of authenticity, meticulous design, and, in many cases, legal tender status in issuing countries that have embraced this type of licensing.

Stranger Things fits particularly well into this category because its visual universe is so recognizable. Few recent series have so many of their own symbols: the Christmas lights, the Demogorgon, the bicycles, the Hellfire Club, the Mind Flayer, Vecna, Hawkins, the lab, the walkie-talkies, or the 80s aesthetic that permeates the entire production.

On a coin, where space is limited, this visual language is essential. And these two pieces clearly take advantage of it.

Characteristics of coins

Currency Year Issuing country Face value Metal/finish Diameter Maximum print run

Stranger Things – Eleven and Vecna 2026 Tuvalu 50 cents 1/2 oz of 99.99% silver, color 32.60 mm 2,500 pieces
Stranger Things – Welcome to Hawkins 2026 Tuvalu 1 dollar Gold-plated copper, color 30.70 mm 5,000 pieces

Description of the obverses

The obverse of these issues features the effigy of King Charles III created by Jody Clark, accompanied by the legends corresponding to the issuing country, the face value and the year 2026. It is the institutional face of coins that, despite their marked character of popular culture, are official issues with legal value in Tuvalu.

That contrast between the classic portrait of the monarch and the reverses inspired by Stranger Things is one of the most curious aspects of this type of piece: on the one hand, the numismatic tradition; on the other, a series born in the streaming era.

Description of the reverses

On the coin dedicated to Eleven and Vecna, the reverse shows the two characters facing off, their hands outstretched as they channel their powers. The divided background and vines evoke the Upside Down. Details such as Surfer Boy Pizza's sunglasses and the stained-glass rose from Creel House also appear. The design is completed with the Stranger Things logo, the phrase "YOUR SUFFERING IS ALMOST AT AN END," and The Perth Mint's "P" mark.

On the “Welcome to Hawkins” coin, the reverse depicts the town of Hawkins with the Mind Flayer in the background. A grayscale area symbolizes the Upside Down, creating a scene where the threat appears to emanate from within the town itself. The design also includes the Stranger Things logo, the word “HAWKINS,” and The Perth Mint’s mint mark.

Why these coins might attract attention beyond traditional collecting

These issues have a particularly interesting aspect: they can appeal to two distinct audiences. On the one hand, there's the numismatic collector who follows the latest releases from The Perth Mint, including limited editions and modern coins with special finishes. On the other hand, there's the Stranger Things fan who may never have considered buying a coin, but would certainly like to own an official item related to one of their favorite series.

This intersection between numismatics and fandom is becoming increasingly important. The coin ceases to be merely a technical piece and also becomes a small metal sign, an encapsulated scene, a fragment of popular culture transformed into a physical object.

In times when almost everything is consumed on screen, it is striking that a series born on Netflix ends up finding a second life in silver, color and gold metal.

Hawkins fits on a coin

The new Stranger Things coins issued by The Perth Mint don't need much explanation to grab attention. Just seeing Eleven facing Vecna or the menacing silhouette of the Mind Flayer over Hawkins is enough to immediately recognize the universe they belong to.

These pieces speak the language of the series: mystery, nostalgia, darkness, and adventure. They also speak the language of modern numismatics, which is increasingly open to turning major icons of popular culture into official limited-edition coins.

Because, in the end, Hawkins wasn't just on the other side of the screen. Now he can also fit on a coin.

Noi monede comemorative din Australia - 11.08.2025 - VIDEO

In 2025, The Perth Mint has once again captivated collectors and investors with a new release in its Australian Emu series . These bullion coins, minted in 1 ounce of pure gold or silver , combine technical precision, artistic beauty, and a deep connection to Australian identity.

The reverse features an adult emu accompanied by five young, moving across arid terrain under the outback sun. It's a print that conveys both tenderness and resilience: a faithful portrait of the continent's wildlife.

Each element of the engraving has been designed to evoke the emu's natural environment. The feathers are rendered with fine lines that capture the true texture, and the background features hills and sparse vegetation typical of the Australian outback. The edge of the coin frames the scene with the inscription "AUSTRALIAN EMU," the year "2025," and the purity of the metal.

On the obverse, both versions bear the effigy of Charles III , a symbol of Australian sovereignty.

Specifications that seduce investors

1 oz Bullion Silver : 99.99% pure, 40.90 mm diameter, 3.50 mm thickness, maximum mintage 30,000 . Face value: 1 Australian dollar.

1 oz Gold Bullion : 99.99% pure, 32.60 mm diameter, 2.95 mm thickness, maximum mintage 5,000 . Face value: 100 Australian dollars.

Both are individually encapsulated and feature invisible security micro-engravings, a detail that adds peace of mind to buyers and collectors.

Brief history of the series

The Australian Emu series was born as a parallel offering to other Perth Mint successes, such as the kangaroo and kookaburra coins. Its objective: to highlight one of the most iconic and underrepresented birds in international numismatics. Since its first issue, the limited mintage and annual rotation of designs have ensured that each release is highly sought after on the secondary market.

The emu: more than an artistic motif

1 oz Australian Emu 2025 silver colorized edition, with proof finish and selective color application by The Perth Mint.

The emu can reach 2 m in height and run at 50 km/h.

The emu ( Dromaius novaehollandiae ) is Australia's largest bird and the second tallest on the planet, surpassed only by the ostrich. It lives in open, arid areas, adapting easily to the continent's climate variability.

Its cultural role is notable: it appears on Australia's coat of arms alongside the kangaroo and holds an important place in Aboriginal myths and stories. Furthermore, in nature, the male incubates the eggs for eight weeks and cares for the young, a behavior uncommon among birds that underscores its protective nature.

Exclusivity and future value

The limited availability—30,000 silver coins and only 5,000 gold coins—ensures that, over time, these coins will become more coveted. Their dual appeal as an investment asset and as a work of art in precious metal means that well-preserved examples can see their value grow beyond the price of gold or silver.

O nouă monedă comemorativă din Australia - 13.04.2025 - VIDEO

For 100 years, the Royal Australian Corps of Signals has been at the forefront of military communications, ensuring the rapid and secure transfer of information on the battlefield. Since its founding, the Corps has played a vital role in every major Australian military mission, pioneering advances in electronic warfare, cyber operations, and cutting-edge military technology.

To commemorate this milestone, the Royal Australian Mint is introducing a new $1 coin honoring the century of service of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals, recognizing their dedication, resilience, and unwavering role in Australia's defense history. This iconic coin recognizes the thousands of men and women who have dedicated their service to providing secure and reliable communications in the Australian Defense Forces.

The Royal Australian Corps of Signals is one of the oldest and most distinguished units in the Australian Army. Its origins date back to 1869, when the first signal corps were formed in New South Wales and Victoria, the first of its kind in the entire British Empire. Since then, it has evolved significantly, becoming a key organization for military communications.

Formally established as a Corps in 1925 and awarded the title “Royal” in 1948 by King George VI, its members have served with excellence in all major international conflicts and operations in which Australia has participated, including Korea, Vietnam, Timor-Leste and the Middle East.

Today, the Royal Australian Corps of Signals maintains a significant national and international presence, with more than 2,600 personnel trained in communications technologies, electronic warfare, and information systems.

The reverse of the coin, designed by Adam Ball, honors the identity and heritage of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. At its center is Mercury, the Roman messenger god, representing the Corps' commitment to transmitting vital information with accuracy and urgency. Mercury stands atop a globe, symbolizing the Corps' national and global reach in military communications. He holds a lightning bolt, a symbol of rapid communication, while a second lightning bolt beneath his foot reinforces the Corps' motto, "Certa Cito" (Swift and Secure).

Surrounding this central image, a wreath of leaves frames the design, mimicking the original insignia of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. The background features the motto "Certa Cito" in Morse code and binary, visually linking the corps' historical roots with its modern evolution in electronic warfare and cyber operations.

Finally, the already familiar Daniel Thorne obverse features the iconic effigy of King Charles III, framed by the inscriptions separated by periods of the name, the issuing country "AUSTRALIA", the year of issue "2025" and the face value "1 DOLLAR".

A unique $2 coin has just been issued in Australia to commemorate the animals that served alongside the army in wars.

Animals have long served alongside Australian soldiers in times of war, providing transport and cargo, acting as messengers and protectors and even as mascots. This coin is intended to recognise, amongst others, the silent but essential contributions of carrier pigeons, camels and horses that served in World War I or mine and explosive detection dogs in Korea and Vietnam.

Introduced to Australia by the Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation (AWAMO) in 2013, the purple poppy is a symbol and a poignant reminder of the exploits and bravery shown by these loyal companions to Australian soldiers, which is why it is a fundamental part of the design of this coin, which remembers the sacrifices of these four-legged and feathered animals so that they are not forgotten.

The reverse of the coin shows the symbol of a purple poppy in the centre, surrounded by images of animals that have served in war conflicts, as a tribute to their sacrifice. The purple poppy is an emblem of recognition of war animals.

The obverse of the coin features an effigy of King Charles III, designed by Daniel Thorne. The portrait follows the numismatic tradition of depicting the monarch on Australian coins. The text around the effigy includes the legend: “CHARLES III • KING • AUSTRALIA • 2024”.

The Australian Mint has sold 15,000 coins in rolls to authorised dealers. Each roll contains 25 coins.

There is also the BU quality coin that has a "C" mint mark in the upper right corner, presented on a card or blister.

Although this coin is not intended for circulation, it has the power to issue money and can be used for payment.

Another of the famous investment coins minted and marketed by the Australian Perth Mint, the Koala, has been issued. Struck with 99.99% pure silver, the Koala in its 2024 version is available in one-ounce and one-kilogram sizes.

While the one-ounce version has a limited run of 300,000 units, the one-kilo version has an unlimited run, although it will only be minted until the end of 2024.

More about the koala and the currency

The widespread recognition of the koala as a symbolic member of Australia's unique marsupial family led to the launch of the Australian Koala Silver Bullion Coin Series in 2007, which has since proven popular around the world. Hailing from a land often associated with menacing wildlife, the koala is a most docile, if not adorable, animal, spending vast amounts of time sleeping in trees and eating the leaves of its preferred species of eucalyptus.

Version 2024

The design of this coin, created by Ing Ing Jong, depicts a koala on a branch of eucalyptus. The coin bears the inscription “KOALA” and the special mintmark “P125”, which celebrates the 125th anniversary of The Perth Mint, as well as the weight, purity and year of issue of the coin.

The obverse of the coin features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, made by Dan Thorne, and the monetary denomination.
