For 100 years, the Royal Australian Corps of Signals has been at the forefront of military communications, ensuring the rapid and secure transfer of information on the battlefield. Since its founding, the Corps has played a vital role in every major Australian military mission, pioneering advances in electronic warfare, cyber operations, and cutting-edge military technology.

To commemorate this milestone, the Royal Australian Mint is introducing a new $1 coin honoring the century of service of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals, recognizing their dedication, resilience, and unwavering role in Australia's defense history. This iconic coin recognizes the thousands of men and women who have dedicated their service to providing secure and reliable communications in the Australian Defense Forces.

The Royal Australian Corps of Signals is one of the oldest and most distinguished units in the Australian Army. Its origins date back to 1869, when the first signal corps were formed in New South Wales and Victoria, the first of its kind in the entire British Empire. Since then, it has evolved significantly, becoming a key organization for military communications.

Formally established as a Corps in 1925 and awarded the title “Royal” in 1948 by King George VI, its members have served with excellence in all major international conflicts and operations in which Australia has participated, including Korea, Vietnam, Timor-Leste and the Middle East.

Today, the Royal Australian Corps of Signals maintains a significant national and international presence, with more than 2,600 personnel trained in communications technologies, electronic warfare, and information systems.

The reverse of the coin, designed by Adam Ball, honors the identity and heritage of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. At its center is Mercury, the Roman messenger god, representing the Corps' commitment to transmitting vital information with accuracy and urgency. Mercury stands atop a globe, symbolizing the Corps' national and global reach in military communications. He holds a lightning bolt, a symbol of rapid communication, while a second lightning bolt beneath his foot reinforces the Corps' motto, "Certa Cito" (Swift and Secure).

Surrounding this central image, a wreath of leaves frames the design, mimicking the original insignia of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. The background features the motto "Certa Cito" in Morse code and binary, visually linking the corps' historical roots with its modern evolution in electronic warfare and cyber operations.

Finally, the already familiar Daniel Thorne obverse features the iconic effigy of King Charles III, framed by the inscriptions separated by periods of the name, the issuing country "AUSTRALIA", the year of issue "2025" and the face value "1 DOLLAR".
