Since the first of September, the three French Pacific territories, New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna, have a new series of coins. The Overseas Issuance Institute (IEOM), the body that manages this currency, has decided to change their design.
The CFP franc will remain the currency unit of legal tender. The initials CFP originally corresponded to Colonies françaises du Pacifique, and was changed to "Financial Community of the Pacific." Today the name corresponds to Comptoirs français du Pacifique (France-Pacific Financial Agreements).
Until now, the coins of the three territories were different, although they were all valid in the three archipelagos. But from now on, the currencies will be identical in New Caledonia, French Polynesia, and Wallis and Futuna. The change of currencies will be the second stage of the renovation of the local currency since the banknotes changed in 2014.

There will be a transition period with a double circulation of coins, new and old, from September 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022, it can be paid indistinctly with one or the other.

The coins feature beautiful compositions representative of the wealth, diversity and identity of the three French Pacific communities. Each piece is distinguished by a different theme: flora, boat, fish, birds, habitat and culture, to facilitate its visual recognition and the attached facial value.
