O nouă monedă comemorativă din Monaco - 13.06.2025

Utilizați butonul de Translate din dreapta pagini pentru traducere.

Monaco is once again attracting the attention of European collectors with a new commemorative 2 euro coin issue, scheduled for June 16, 2025. This time, the coin is dedicated to the County of Carladès , a historic enclave closely linked to the House of Grimaldi. As every year, this coin is generating great excitement, not so much for its design or theme, but for its exclusive limited edition , which this year is once again set at 15,000 units , all of them in Proof quality .

The County of Carladès, located in the French region of Auvergne, was granted to the Grimaldi family in the 17th century by King Louis XIII. Although no longer part of the principality, the title of Count of Carladès remains in the princely family and is currently held by Princess Gabriella, daughter of Prince Albert II.

This image, while not real, represents what appears on the coin. Once I have a quality image, I'll replace it.

The coin is presented in a "Belle Épreuve" (Proof) finish , the highest quality in the numismatic world, and will be delivered encapsulated in a case, with its corresponding certificate of authenticity. Everything indicates that it will be one of the most coveted issues of the year.

As if that weren't enough, rumors have been circulating among specialized collectors for weeks about a second commemorative 2-euro issue by Monaco in 2025. Although there's no official confirmation, it would be consistent with the common practice of other European microstates.

For those who wish to acquire this gem, it is essential to be well prepared. The sale will begin on Monday, June 16, at 10:00 a.m. (local time) , exclusively through the online store of the Museum of Stamps and Coins of Monaco ( www.mtm-monaco.mc ). There will be no in-person sales or pre-reservations.

It is essential to be registered on the website and carefully review your personal information: it must be free of special characters (such as accents, umlauts, or cedillas), as these can cause technical errors and result in the cancellation of the order.

Each buyer may only purchase one coin , in an effort to ensure equitable distribution. In the event of duplicate orders or signs of fraud, the museum reserves the right to cancel the purchase. The selling price should be approximately €130, based on last year's sales. Shipping costs are €35 for France and €40 for the rest of Europe .

With such a limited run and the precedents of previous years, everything points to this issue selling out in a matter of minutes. So if you want to add it to your collection, you'll want to be ready, punctual, and have everything in order.

Although it may seem somewhat strange at this time, I can now provide you with information and images about the commemorative 2 euro coin that Monaco will issue in 2024, a coin with which the "500th Anniversary of the Principality of Monaco" will be celebrated.

As in previous years, the number of minted pieces will be very limited, in 2024 there will be 15,000 and as is also usual, all in Proof quality. The issue date has not been revealed.

The coin bears the image of Charles V, the ruler of the Holy Roman Empire who secured the independence of the principality by placing it under his protection in 1524.

We know all this information thanks to the fact that Prince Albert visited the Pessac mint this week, where together with the director of the Monnaie de Paris, Marc Schwartz, they minted the first coins.

Treaties of Burgos and Tordesillas that grant autonomy to Monaco and recognize the Grimaldi.

The Grimaldis, although converted by force of circumstances into tireless warriors, do not forget their skills as skilled businessmen and politicians. For this reason, AUGUSTINE I of Monaco (1523-1532), skillfully decides to escape his fiercest enemies through the protection of the powerful Spanish kings who dominate Europe. A consequence of this stratagem will be the treaties of Burgos and Tordesillas that will grant, in 1524, autonomy to this small state with the consequent displeasure of the Italians and French. Thus a tiny country was born that has an exceptional protector: Emperor Charles V who recognizes the sovereignty of the Grimaldis over Monaco.

O nouă monedă comemorativă din Monaco - 20.05.2023

Utilizați butonul de Translate din dreapta pagini pentru traducere.

On February 5, I announced to the friends who follow the Amigos de Numismatica Visual blog , the more than likely issue of a 2-euro commemorative coin from Monaco dedicated to the "Centenary of the Birth of Prince Rainier III", today I can tell you confirm and, in addition, provide a lot of information about it.

The issue volume this year increases to 25,000 coins, from 15,000 in recent years. 15,000 pieces will be put up for sale, as usual, 7,500 through the website of the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies de Monaco and another 7,500 to numismatic wholesalers (this distribution is the one that is usually done).

The novelty this year is that the 10,000 extra coins will be given away to the citizens of Monaco, upon presentation of an identity document that accredits them as citizens residing in the Principality. In principle it will be next May 31 when this happens. These coins will not come in cases like the ones for sale, it is assumed that being a gift it will be something simpler.

For those interested in being able to acquire any of the 15,000 commemorative 2-euro coins that Monaco issues this year, we would like to inform you that they will be put up for sale on Thursday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m.

This is what the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies de Monaco announced yesterday afternoon in its online store, where the coin will be sold. The sale price in previous years was €120 plus €35 shipping costs, this year as everything has gone up we do not rule out a price increase. The sale will be limited to one coin per person. In order to buy, it is essential to be registered on the store's website beforehand.

The images that illustrate this entry are the ones posted on its website, the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies in Monaco, where it already lets us see the image, although quite bad, of the coin, and its presentation, a coin that will only be issued in Proof quality.

From here you can access the place where the coin will be sold.

Yesterday, both by phone and by mail, I received from up to 3 different people who had bought the 2 euro commemorative coin of Monaco for this 2022 on September 7, the notice that they had received an email requesting a copy of their DNI, and that they had to do it within 24 hours, so that their purchase would not be cancelled, since they had to verify that the order made to the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies complied with the rules imposed by them, alleging that they had detected a large number of purchase fraud attempts. I imagine that they were referring to people who had been able to buy several of these coins, which in theory were limited to one per person.

All the people who consulted me were surprised by this email, there was no record of something like this in any year and they were afraid that this email was a scam, since they had to provide them with a copy of a document that can be used, for example, for an impersonation of identity.

This morning one of the people who received that email has contacted Monaco and they have confirmed that they are indeed the ones who have sent the email and that it is about new measures that they have taken this year.

O nouă monedă de circulație din Monaco - 25.06.2022

Utilizați butonul de Translate din dreapta pagini pentru traducere.

We are already clear about the euro coins that Monaco will issue in 2022, including the commemorative 2-euro coin dedicated to the “Centenary of the death of Prince Albert I of Monaco”. The data that I offer you is taken from the Journal de Monaco, the equivalent of the Official State Gazette here in Spain.

Starting with the lowest denominations, according to what was published in the Journal de Monaco, in 2022 no cent coin will be minted, that is, there will be no 1, 2, 5, 10 and 50 cent pieces. Which lets us know that this year they have no intention of minting the euroset with the "circulation" coins of the current year.

Yes, there will be a 1 euro coin, of which 1,180,912 will be minted, so it will be a piece that can be found in circulation within a few dates. We will also have a regular 2 euro coin, in an amount of 1,050,000 pieces, more than enough to circulate without any problem.

The problem comes now, and it is that as was feared, the commemorative 2-euro coin alluding to the «Centenary of the death of Prince Albert I of Monaco», will have a derisory circulation, in accordance with that of recent years, 15,000 units , which will be minted in Proof quality.

For my part, I am already tired of saying what I think of this type of emissions with such a minuscule amount, so I am not going to comment on it. The only thing I can do, and will do, assuming that it can be purchased as in previous years in the online store of the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies de Monaco, is to provide you with the date of issue and the link to the aforementioned store so that you could purchase it. at the issue price, as soon as it is known. If we base ourselves on previous years, it could be €120, with shipping costs to Spain and other European countries of €35.

The news does not stop, and as there are no holidays here, I am going to show you the image that will present the 2 euro commemorative coin that Monaco will issue this year to celebrate the "Tenth wedding anniversary of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene", that as I announced in its day the circulation will be only 15,000 units, predictably all will be minted in Proof quality.

Image of the coin courtesy of Gerhard Schön

As you can see, the image that shows the coin is very, very similar to the one issued in 2011, when the link was produced. The inner part of the coin features, in the center, the effigies of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene. At the top is the name of the issuing country "MONACO". At the bottom the legends "2011 - MARIAGE PRINCIPIER - 2021", among which are inserted the mint mark of the (Monnaie de Paris, Pessac) and that of the engraver, Joaquín Jiménez. The twelve stars of the European Union appear on the circular crown.

As in previous years, this coin will be put on sale in the online store of the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies in Monaco, on a date not yet announced. If we are based on previous years, the price of it could be € 120, with shipping costs to Spain and other European countries of € 35.

A little about the wedding

On July 1, 2011, Prince Albert II married Miss Charlene Wittstock in a civil ceremony held in the Throne Room of the Prince's Palace. The religious marriage was celebrated the following day in the Royal Courtyard of the Palace before numerous members of the European royalty.

2021 marks the tenth anniversary of this union, consecrated on December 10, 2014 with the birth of twins, Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.

As most of you know, a commemorative 2-euro coin was also issued in 2011 for the celebration of the link, with a circulation of 147,877 pieces, a figure that we would like to be the same for the 2021 coin.

For those interested in being able to acquire any of the 15,000 commemorative 2-euro coins that Monaco issues in this 2020 dedicated to the "300th anniversary of the birth of Prince Honoré III", inform you that its issuance and sale will take place on Tuesday, Tuesday 20 October at 10 am.

This is what the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies de Monaco has reported in its online store, where the coin will be sold exclusively. What he has not provided is the price at which they will go on sale, although if we base ourselves on previous years it could be € 120, with shipping costs to Spain and other European countries of € 35. The sale will almost certainly be limited to one coin per person.

The images that illustrate this entry are those that the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies de Monaco has posted on its website, where it already lets us see a first image of the coin in question, a coin that will only be issued in Proof quality.

Honorato III, Prince of Monaco (Paris, November 10, 1720 - March 21, 1795) reigned the Principality of Monaco for sixty years from 1733 to 1793. He became Prince of Monaco after the abdication of Jacques I in 1733.

Noi monede de circulație din Monaco - 25.08.2020

Utilizați butonul de Translate din dreapta pagini pentru traducere.

Three weeks after the Journal of Monaco, the equivalent of the Official State Gazette here in Spain, published as a novelty the "circulation" euro currency issues of this year 2020, which were released according to the issue volumes that we would have 7,000 eurosets with the eight regular coins, from 1 cent to 2 euros with a stamp date of 2020, we have learned that this document has been modified.

It was expected that this document would be modified to include the 2 euro commemorative coin this year for the "300th anniversary of the birth of Prince Honoré III", a fact that already includes the 15,000 pieces announced, which has taken us by surprise, If this expression fits with Monaco, it is the modification of the issue volumes, upwards, of the regular 1 and 2 euro coins, which means that these coins will go into circulation.

The 1 euro coin initially announced the issuance of 7,000 pieces, all destined for Euroset 2020, now the amount rises to 1,094,017 which would mean 1,087,017 for circulation. The regular 2 euro goes from 7,000 to 1,007,000, which would leave the figure of 1 million coins for circulation. All this assuming that there is no new modification in the emission volumes.

If you want to consult the Journal of Monaco where the data that I have provided is, I leave you the link . It publishes the issue volumes of the entire Monaco euro coin since 2001. The Monnaie de Paris is in charge of its minting.

Un nou set numismatic din Monaco - 03.08.2020

Predictably after the summer, the 15,000 2-euro coins commemorating Monaco for the "300th anniversary of the birth of Prince Honoré III" will be put on sale, something we found out on May 15 after being published in the Official Gazette of the European Union. Today we know, thanks to the Journal de Monaco, the equivalent of the Official State Gazette here in Spain, that there will be at least one other issue of coins by the Principality in 2020.

Looking at the Monaco Journal of today, July 31, we realize, due to the volumes of coin issuance announced for this year, that we will have a euroset with the eight regular "circulation" coins dated 2020, in an amount of 7,000 units.

Curiously in this document the commemorative 2-euro coin of this year is not announced, but it should not surprise us much either, since sometimes throughout a year the document is usually modified several times.

If you want to consult the Monaco Journal where the data that I have provided you, I leave the link . In it you can also find out the issue volumes of the entire Monaco euro currency since 2001. La Monnaie de Paris is in charge of minting it.

As a famous song would say "life remains the same", and yes, it seems that there are things that do not change within the numismatic world, at least as far as Monaco is concerned, all with the approval and approval of the European Commission who exercises his necessary cooperative work so that the principality reissues a commemorative 2-euro coin with a ridiculous mintage, only 15,000 pieces that will make him speculate and much with this piece.

This year we changed princes for the reason of the coin, we went from Honorato V to which it was dedicated last year to, Honorato III who is due this year. The exact reason is "300th anniversary of the birth of Prince Honoré III".

The motif shows the effigy of Prince Honoré III. On the left is the inscription "HONORÉ III" and the name of the issuing country "MONACO". At the bottom, in a semicircle, is the inscription "1720 -Naissance-2020".

Honorato III, Prince of Monaco (Paris, November 10, 1720 - March 21, 1795) reigned the principality of Monaco for sixty years from 1733 to 1793. He became Prince of Monaco after the abdication of Jacques I in 1733.

Apart from the print run of 15,000 coins, the issuance for June 1 is announced, although the latter should be taken with great caution since the health crisis we are experiencing may mean that the date may not be met.

Among the bad things, which is the low issue of this currency, we hope that this year it can be obtained, as in previous years, in the online store of the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies de Monaco. Remind you that the ones for 2018 for the "250th Anniversary of the birth of François Joseph Bosio" and 2019 for the "200th Anniversary of the arrival to the throne of Prince Honorato V", were put on sale for € 120 plus € 35 shipping costs. . They are € 155 in total, but if you are going to acquire it, it is the best price you can find. When it goes on sale, as I do every year, I will provide you with all the information about it.

We can now confirm officially that the European Commission has authorized the Principality of Monaco to issue a commemorative 2 euro coin with an issue volume of only 15,000 units for this year 2019, under the theme "200th Anniversary of the arrival to the throne of Prince Honorato V ». We also have the image that will be represented in the coin, coined only in Proof quality.

The motif shows the effigy of Prince Honorat V. On the left, there is the inscription "HONORÉ V", and on the right, the name of the issuing State, "MONACO". In the lower part, in a semicircle, the inscription "1819 - Avènement - 2019" is shown.

This coin and the last 2 euros commemorative issued by Monaco, generate quite controversial because of its low circulation that makes it inaccessible to many collectors, which also generates a speculative business environment around it.

If you are one of those who are going to buy it, the best price can be obtained when the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies of Monaco in their online store puts them up for sale. In recent years the price has been € 120 plus € 35 shipping, which makes the currency for € 155. As an example, the one issued in 2018 for the «250th Anniversary of the Birth of François Joseph Bosio», is around € 200 on auction pages and those of previous years, the price is much higher. When it goes to put on sale, as I do every year, I will provide all the information about it.

As part of the celebrations to honor the 90th anniversary of Grace Kelly's birth, the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies in Monaco has issued and sold a coin dedicated to the famous actress and Princess of Monaco this week.

The 5,000 silver coins minted by the Monnaie de Paris has a facial of 10 euros and were put on sale last Thursday, May 16, at the "reasonable" price of € 140 plus € 35 shipping. Before knowing the price, many collectors, who knew in advance of the issue, were willing to buy some of the pieces, but once they knew what it cost, they chose not to buy it, in fact today it appears for sale in the online shop of the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies.

The coin is based on a photograph by Yousuf Karsh taken in 1956, accompanied by the legends "PRINCESSE GRACE DE MONACO" and the year of coinage "2019".

This coin is the fifth piece of collection issued by the Principality since the introduction of the euro in 2002, with it is intended to honor the memory of Princess Grace of Monaco who would have celebrated his 90th birthday this year had not the tragic car accident happened in September of 1982.

The princess had already been distinguished with a silver coin of 10 francs in 1966 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of her marriage to Prince Rainier III, then, with a circulation coin of 10 francs in 1982 after her death, and finally, with the famous 2 euro commemorative coin of 2007, for the 25th anniversary of his death.

On the back of the coin is the monogram of Princess Grace crowned with the inscription «PRINCIPAUTÉ DE MONACO» and below a rose, the inscription «€ 10», in addition to the corresponding mint marks.

In spite of the fact that Europe allows Monaco to issue such a small number for a 2 euro commemorative coin, 16,000 units, we have the consolation that those who follow this blog, and you were interested in this currency, have been able to get it to its issue price. Now that the currency has already begun to be received by buyers, we will learn about the reasons that appear on the coin and about the character to whom this piece is dedicated, commemorating the "250th Anniversary of the birth of François Joseph Bosio".

The central motif shows François Joseph Bosio next to his famous sculpture La Ninfa Salmacis which is in the Louvre Museum in Paris, below these the inscriptions «FRANCOIS-JOSEPH BOSIO» «1768 • SCULPTEUR • 2018», left the mark of mint of the Monnaie de Paris (Pessac) and to the right the mark of the mint teacher Yves Sampo. In the upper part there is the inscription «MONACO».
