As part of the celebrations to honor the 90th anniversary of Grace Kelly's birth, the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies in Monaco has issued and sold a coin dedicated to the famous actress and Princess of Monaco this week.
The 5,000 silver coins minted by the Monnaie de Paris has a facial of 10 euros and were put on sale last Thursday, May 16, at the "reasonable" price of € 140 plus € 35 shipping. Before knowing the price, many collectors, who knew in advance of the issue, were willing to buy some of the pieces, but once they knew what it cost, they chose not to buy it, in fact today it appears for sale in the online shop of the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies.
The coin is based on a photograph by Yousuf Karsh taken in 1956, accompanied by the legends "PRINCESSE GRACE DE MONACO" and the year of coinage "2019".
This coin is the fifth piece of collection issued by the Principality since the introduction of the euro in 2002, with it is intended to honor the memory of Princess Grace of Monaco who would have celebrated his 90th birthday this year had not the tragic car accident happened in September of 1982.
The princess had already been distinguished with a silver coin of 10 francs in 1966 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of her marriage to Prince Rainier III, then, with a circulation coin of 10 francs in 1982 after her death, and finally, with the famous 2 euro commemorative coin of 2007, for the 25th anniversary of his death.
On the back of the coin is the monogram of Princess Grace crowned with the inscription «PRINCIPAUTÉ DE MONACO» and below a rose, the inscription «€ 10», in addition to the corresponding mint marks.
