Noi monede comemorative din Spania - 26.05.2019

Next May 27 the FNMT will put on sale the fourth series of Spanish coins within the program "Épocas de Europa", with the theme "Renacimiento". This issue includes two coins, one in gold and one in silver, with the same design. The coins represent a portrait of the famous Don Quixote, the Palace of the Emperor Charles V, located in the Alhambra and a portrait of Juan de la Cosa.


 

Reasons present in the coins:

The Palace of Carlos V , located in the Alhambra, Granada. Emperor Charles V decided to build a royal residence in the place conquered by his grandparents, the Catholic Monarchs and also as a symbol of the triumph of Christianity over Islam.

Juan de la Cosa was a Spanish navigator and cartographer, known for making one of the first European maps incorporating the terriorios of America. De la Cosa played an important role in the first and second voyage of Christopher Columbus to America, as he was the owner and captain of the Santa Maria, one of the ships.

Don Quixote , the famous Spanish novel written by Cervantes.






On the back three motifs framed in ovals are reproduced. The upper oval contains an image of the Alhambra of Granada, with the Palace of Carlos V; the right oval, a traditional image of Don Quixote on the back of Rocinante; the left oval, a detail of the portrait of Juan de la Cosa, which is kept in the Naval Museum of Madrid. On the left side of the coin, between the top oval and the left oval, the mint mark. In the lower part of the coin, horizontally, in two lines and in capital letters, the value of the piece.



On the obverse, in the center of the coin and within a circle, is reproduced the portrait of His Majesty the King Don Felipe VI, wearing the distinctive of Captain General. On the left, in a circular and uppercase, the legend FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA; on the right, the year of minting 2019. On the upper part of the coin, in a circular and uppercase, the legend RENAISSANCE. In the lower part of the coin, the common brand adopted by the countries that issue currencies dedicated to the Europe Program. A five-pointed star occupies the entire bottom of the coin.
