The second commemorative 2 euro coin issued by Belgium in 2019 dedicated to the «25th Anniversary of the European Monetary Institute», is already on sale on the official website that markets the numismatic issues issued by Belgium.

It begins to be unfortunately usual that this type of coins does not go into circulation, being the only possibility of obtaining any of the 155,000 with which account of issuance volume, acquiring any of the coincards (2 versions) in BU quality, or issued in case in Proof quality.

On the inside of the coin, on the right, appears the portrait of Alexandre Lamfalussy, the first president of the IME and, next to him, his name. On the left, the abbreviation EMI appears and, on top of this, the year 1994, which refers to the date of the creation of the Institute and the designation of Lamfalussy as its first president. Beneath the abbreviation IME, several coins are shown falling over each other with the inscription €, «ECU» and «BEF», from top to bottom. Since it is a Belgian issue, "BEF" has been chosen, since it is the abbreviation of the old national currency.

The purpose of the motive is to symbolically present the transition of national currencies
to a single European currency, the euro, since the main task of the EMI was to establish the European System of Central Banks, including the ECB and the new currency. The inscription "European Monetary Institute" appears on the upper part of the left side of the coin.

As the Royal Mint of the Netherlands has coined the coins, the mint mark of Utrecht, a caduceus, appears on the left next to the mint mark of the director of the Belgian Mint, the coat of arms of the municipality Herzele. The country code "BE" and the year 2019 mark are located at the bottom. The initials LL, which refer to the initials of the currency designer, Luc Luycx, are to the right of the coin.
