On June 17, the National Bank of Belarus issued a new series of commemorative coins dedicated to rail transport, entitled "History of the Belarusian Railway: Trains."
This collection pays tribute to the important evolution of the railway in the country, presenting five different designs that show: a steam locomotive, a diesel locomotive, an electric locomotive, a diesel train, and an electric train.
The Belarusian Railway
The railway reached the region of present-day Belarus in the mid-19th century, marking the beginning of a profound transformation. In December 1862, the Porechje–Grodno section of the St. Petersburg–Warsaw line was opened, the first to cross Belarusian territory, connecting Grodno (Hrodna) with the rest of the Russian Empire.
During the 1860s, essential lines were completed: Daugavpils–Polatsk–Vitebsk and the Warsaw–Brest (1866), which was completed as far as Moscow by the end of the decade, around 1871. By the end of the 19th century, the network had accumulated approximately 2,800 km, consolidating Belarus as a strategic axis between Western Europe and Russia.
The railway infrastructure was severely damaged during the First World War and again during the Second World War, when its role was crucial for military mobilization and evacuations.
The subsequent reconstruction was intense: under the USSR, Belarus increased its railway capacity, electrifying routes and strengthening internal and international connections. By the mid-20th century, it already had an extensive and modernized network.
Following independence in 1991, the Belarusian Railway was officially established in 1992, inheriting nearly 5,500 km of track, of which approximately 874 km were electrified. The system continues to operate under the Russian gauge of 1,520 mm and maintains key international connections such as Brest–Minsk–Orsha, Gomel–Minsk, Vitebsk–Orsha, as well as links to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, and Ukraine.

The five commemorative coins issued feature each of the different trains in the center, framed by the inscription of the name of the issue motif at the top of the composition "ГІСТОРѫYA БЕЛАРУСКАЙ ЧѫГУНКІ" (HISTORY OF THE BELARUSIAN RAILWAY), and the name of each train type is indicated in the lower area.

Common obverse
The obverse of the coins features the national coat of arms of the Republic of Belarus in the center, framed by the name of the issuing country "БЕЛАРУСЬ" (BELARUS), and the face value "2 RUBLI" (2 RUBLES), all separated by Belarusian ornamental elements.
These coins were minted by the Kazakhstan Mint.
