On February 5, I announced to the friends who follow the Amigos de Numismatica Visual blog , the more than likely issue of a 2-euro commemorative coin from Monaco dedicated to the "Centenary of the Birth of Prince Rainier III", today I can tell you confirm and, in addition, provide a lot of information about it.
The issue volume this year increases to 25,000 coins, from 15,000 in recent years. 15,000 pieces will be put up for sale, as usual, 7,500 through the website of the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies de Monaco and another 7,500 to numismatic wholesalers (this distribution is the one that is usually done).
The novelty this year is that the 10,000 extra coins will be given away to the citizens of Monaco, upon presentation of an identity document that accredits them as citizens residing in the Principality. In principle it will be next May 31 when this happens. These coins will not come in cases like the ones for sale, it is assumed that being a gift it will be something simpler.
For those interested in being able to acquire any of the 15,000 commemorative 2-euro coins that Monaco issues this year, we would like to inform you that they will be put up for sale on Thursday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m.
This is what the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies de Monaco announced yesterday afternoon in its online store, where the coin will be sold. The sale price in previous years was €120 plus €35 shipping costs, this year as everything has gone up we do not rule out a price increase. The sale will be limited to one coin per person. In order to buy, it is essential to be registered on the store's website beforehand.
