The Federal Government of Germany has decided to mint a 2-euro commemorative coin under the name “Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania” and issue it in January 2024. The coin is the second issue in the “Bundesländer II” (Federal States II) series, and in which a State is honored annually with the issuance of a 2-euro commemorative coin with an emblematic place. The order of the countries is based on the presidency of the Bundesrat. The series focuses on the cultural identity and regional characteristics of each State. In this way, it follows its successful predecessor series, “Bundesländer” (2006 – 2022), which was completed in January 2022.

The national face was designed by artist Michael Otto. This focuses on the emblematic "Königsstuhl" ( King's Chair ), a calcareous cliff located in the Jasmund National Park on the Baltic Sea island of Rügen, framed by beech forests, and opens up the vision of the monumentality of this unique site. through the perspective of a beach. In the central area there is also the nationality mark "D" of the issuing country, the Federal Republic of Germany, in the year 2024, the letter that marks the Mint (the letter in the image "X" serves here only to mark the position where it will go), the inscription "MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN" and the initials of the artist. The twelve European stars are arranged in the outer ring of the national side.

The edge of the coin bears the inscription "EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT" (UNITY, JUSTICE AND LIBERTY) and a stylized federal eagle.

The expected circulation of the coin is 30 million pieces.
