Yesterday, both by phone and by mail, I received from up to 3 different people who had bought the 2 euro commemorative coin of Monaco for this 2022 on September 7, the notice that they had received an email requesting a copy of their DNI, and that they had to do it within 24 hours, so that their purchase would not be cancelled, since they had to verify that the order made to the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies complied with the rules imposed by them, alleging that they had detected a large number of purchase fraud attempts. I imagine that they were referring to people who had been able to buy several of these coins, which in theory were limited to one per person.
All the people who consulted me were surprised by this email, there was no record of something like this in any year and they were afraid that this email was a scam, since they had to provide them with a copy of a document that can be used, for example, for an impersonation of identity.
This morning one of the people who received that email has contacted Monaco and they have confirmed that they are indeed the ones who have sent the email and that it is about new measures that they have taken this year.
