This 2022 was declared by the Government of Spain as "Santiago Ramón y Cajal Year of Research", it is an event of public interest with which it wants to spread the legacy of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1906 , considered the father of neuroscience, which also marks the 170th anniversary of his birth this year.
To highlight this event and Santiago Ramón y Cajal, an illustrious figure who placed Spain at the forefront of international science, the Royal National Mint and Stamp Factory will issue a 10-euro silver coin with a face.
On the reverse of the coin appears a portrait of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, made by José Padró and from the private collection of Alberto Jiménez Schuhmacher, and an allegory of his drawings and notes. To your right, the Mint mark. At the top, the face value 10 EURO. Surrounding the portrait, in a descending circular direction and in capital letters, the legend YEAR OF INVESTIGATION SANTIAGO RAMÓN Y CAJAL 2022.
