This spring, on a date yet to be determined, Finland will issue a new 2-euro commemorative coin dedicated to a very significant theme: state visits and the country's foreign policy. This coin pays tribute to the role Finland has played on the international stage, highlighting its commitment to diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation among nations.
The coin will be titled "Finnish State Visits – Diplomacy and Foreign Policy" and will be the first of two commemorative issues planned by Finland for 2025.
The design
The coin features a contemporary and symbolic design. In the center, an abstract door-shaped figure represents the idea of openness and encounter that characterizes state visits. This figure appears as a mirror-finished rectangle, with the mintmark, the year "2025," and the code "FI" arranged vertically along the left edge. The top of the rectangle is rounded and follows the curvature of the coin's edge. At the bottom right, the surface is furrowed with horizontal lines, while a circular shape cuts through the curve of the image, creating an interesting visual interplay.
The maximum mintage will be 204,000 coins, a moderately limited quantity, although a significant reduction compared to previous years, when the mintage was 400,000.

In addition to this coin, Finland plans to issue a commemorative coin in the fall, dedicated to the centenary of the Finland-Sweden athletics competition , an event of significant cultural and sporting significance for both countries. We'll be waiting for more details as the date approaches.
