To mark the 180th anniversary of the Société Protectrice des Animaux (SPA), the Monnaie de Paris has unveiled a new series of coins paying tribute to the French people's favorite animals: dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses. The collection, comprised of bimetallic 5-euro coins, is complemented by an exceptional 250-euro coin in pure gold.
The Parisian institution emphasizes that this launch has a distinctly emotional and symbolic character. According to the mint's engravers, participating in this issue means "putting art at the service of a profoundly important cause: the respect and protection of animals." Every detail of the pieces has been crafted as a tribute to the dignity of these animals and to the efforts of those who protect them every day.
The SPA, founded in 1845, has played a key role in the rescue, care, and adoption of millions of animals in France. The collection also aims to highlight this long-standing work, coinciding with its historic anniversary. The four featured animals—dog, cat, rabbit, and horse—were selected not only for their popularity among the French, but also for their strong emotional connection and the bond they represent between humans and nature.
This series was created with the aim of raising public awareness and reinforcing the work of the volunteers and teams who, from the SPA, fight for a just and necessary cause.
