The third U.S. one-dollar coin of 2026, and the thirty-second in the American Innovation Dollar Program series, will be issued on May 12. This new coin, dedicated to the state of California, pays tribute to Steve Jobs, one of the most influential figures in contemporary technology and a symbol of global innovation.

What is the Steve Jobs coin of 2026?

The 2026 Steve Jobs coin is an official one-dollar issue from the United States Mint as part of the American Innovation Dollar Program, dedicated to the state of California. It is not intended for general circulation but is produced exclusively for numismatic collectors.

Steve Jobs (1955–2011), co-founder of Apple Inc., was one of the driving forces behind the technological revolution of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Under his leadership, Apple introduced products that transformed the daily lives of millions of people, from the Macintosh in 1984 to iconic devices like the iPod, the iPhone in 2007, and the iPad in 2010. These advancements redefined entire industries—personal computing, digital music, mobile telephony, and entertainment—and solidified an approach where design and user experience are paramount.

The inscription “ Make Something Wonderful,” featured on the 2026 Steve Jobs coin, encapsulates his philosophy: creating accessible, intuitive technology that fosters creativity. His inclusion in this series, representing California—the birthplace of Silicon Valley—also carries special symbolic value, as he is the first technology entrepreneur honored on the program, reflecting the significant role digital innovation has played in recent history.

The coin depicts a young Steve Jobs seated contemplatively against a backdrop of rolling oak-covered hills, characteristic of Northern California. The scene conveys a serene and reflective image, where nature and inspiration combine to evoke the idea of technology conceived organically and intimately. The design features the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “CALIFORNIA,” along with Jobs' name and the phrase “MAKE SOMETHING WONDERFUL.”

The obverse, common to the entire series, depicts the Statue of Liberty in profile, accompanied by “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1”. Since 2019, it has incorporated a symbol alluding to innovation; in the 2026 issues, this detail is adapted to include a Liberty Bell with the number “250”, referring to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States (1776–2026). The edge features the year of issue, the mint mark, and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM”.

Things to keep in mind

The United States Mint produces it exclusively for numismatic purposes, distributing it in various formats for collectors, which increases its appeal within the specialized market. In this sense, its attractiveness lies not only in its technical characteristics but also in the significance of the figure depicted and its belonging to a well-established thematic series—factors that collectors typically value in the medium and long term. It is therefore not surprising that this type of issue raises one of the most common questions among enthusiasts and the general public: to what extent its historical and thematic interest can translate into greater demand within the numismatic market?

From a technical point of view, it is a 1 dollar coin with standard specifications within the series, which are summarized below:
