Ibero-American Coin Series
The Ibero-American Series of coins is a joint numismatic collection that brings together several Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries, including Spain, Portugal, and several Latin American nations. This series began in 1991, and has since been issued periodically with a central theme that varies in each issue, uniting our countries under a common cultural or historical motif.
The idea for the Ibero-American Series arose in 1991 as a way to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and historical ties between Ibero-American nations. The Royal Mint of Spain played a key role in organizing and promoting the series.
Each broadcast of the series has focused on a specific theme, such as the discovery of America, Ibero-American architecture, the great pre-Columbian cultures, and the historical figures common to the participating countries. For example, the first series in 1991 commemorated the Fifth Centenary of the Discovery of America.
Each participating country issues its own commemorative coin, which follows a unified design in terms of theme but with its own characteristics, such as the national coat of arms or inscriptions in the country's language. The coins are usually made of silver or precious metals and have a high numismatic quality.
The countries that have participated in the different broadcasts include, among others, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Cuba, and Colombia. Each broadcast reinforces the identity and cultural values shared by these countries.
The Ibero-American Series is not only a highly valuable numismatic collection for collectors, but also acts as a reminder of the shared history and cooperation between Ibero-American nations. The coins are a tangible testimony to the historical and cultural ties that unite these countries.

XIII Ibero-American Series – Ibero-American Capitals
This XIII Series is issued under the theme Ibero-American Capitals and eight countries are participating: Argentina, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Portugal. Each piece represents an iconic image of its current capital, or of another city that was, as is the case of Spain with Seville.
Currency of Spain
On the reverse, in the centre of the coin, there is a coloured image of the Plaza de España in Seville. Above this image, in capital letters, is the value of the coin: 5 EURO; to the left of it is the mint mark; at the bottom of the image is the legend SEVILLA. At the top of the coin, in a circular direction and in capital letters, is the legend XIII SERIE IBEROAMERICANA. At the bottom of the coin, in a circular direction and in capital letters, is the legend CAPITALES IBEROAMERICANAS.
The obverse of each coin features all the national coats of arms of the participating countries surrounding the coat of arms of the issuing country. In the image you can see, as an example, the obverse of the Spanish coin, with the coat of arms of Spain in the centre and all the national coats of arms of the participating countries around it.
The Spanish coin can be purchased individually for a recommended price of €42.35, and is presented as you can see in the image. The issue date for this coin and for the entire joint issue will be next Monday, September 16.
