Three years after its launch, the Austrian Mint's coin series, The Language of Flowers, is complete with the issue on September 11 of the seventh and final coin in the collection, in which the protagonist is the Violet.

The violet, a delicate and strong-willed flower, symbolises fidelity, loyalty and constancy in the language of flowers and has long been given as a symbol of love. Like all coins in the Language of Flowers series , the latest coin features a real flower print that captures violets in their natural state and is faithful down to the smallest detail.

With heart-shaped leaves and small, sweet-scented flowers that bloom from late winter to early spring, the violet is often called the “flower of modesty” because of the way its flowers hide shyly beneath the plant’s heart-shaped leaves. The association between the color violet and the plant’s bluish-purple color is thought to have developed in the late 14th century. Although most violets come in shades of blue and purple, they can also be white and yellow, and each color has a slightly different meaning in the language of flowers. Blue violets represent love and fidelity; purple violets mean “thinking of you”; white violets represent innocence, purity, and chastity; and yellow violets, high courage and kindness.

Combined with the delicacy, flavour and fragrance inherent to the violet, its symbolism perhaps makes it the perfect flower to convey a love that is pure and passionate, but also timid and measured. But let's let the violets speak for themselves. With them, we can say: "I'm by your side, no matter what."

The obverse of the Violet coin shows a scene of union in which the faces of a young couple are facing each other, with their eyes closed, their foreheads in gentle contact and their hands intertwined. Both are wearing flowers in their hair.

The reverse of the coin shows three fully opened violets and a bud; behind them, a band of stylised violets. None of the main flower images in the series is based on a drawing or illustration. The starting point for the design of each coin is a real flower grown in the garden, which is then pressed using a special technique.
