On September 4, the Bank of Ukraine issued a new currency, this time to celebrate the centenary of the birth of film director Sergei Paradzhanov.
This commemorative coin is dedicated to the centenary of one of the most recognizable directors of the 20th century, who entered the history of cinema as a representative of the wave of Ukrainian poetic cinema. “The Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” and “The Color of a Pomegranate” are masterpieces that brought the artist worldwide recognition and numerous international awards. The reverse of the coin features a stylised portrait of Sergei Paradzhanov and a skillfully created collage of fragments of his works. This collage is the artist's world, his life path. In the upper part, above the composition, there are the inscriptions СЕРГІЙ ПАРАДЖАНОВ (his name in Ukrainian) and 100, for the centenary of his birth.
The obverse of the coin features a stylized image of the inside of a pomegranate, where we see its seeds. The presented image is a kind of allusion to the naked soul of the master, who found a place in Ukraine, where he lived and worked for a certain period of time. In the upper part, above the composition, there is the inscription UKRAINE, the denomination 5 and the graphic symbol of the hryvnia and the year of the coin's minting - 2024. In the centre of the pomegranate is the small state coat of arms of Ukraine.
