On April 3, 2026, the issuance of the new 10 yuan bimetallic coin dedicated to Wuyishan National Park officially began, the fifth installment in the national parks series initiated by the People's Bank of China in 2023.

This is a particularly important episode within the program, both because of the significance of the park depicted and because of the rich iconography of its design, probably the most elaborate in the series to date.

Obverse: institutional continuity in the series

The obverse maintains the common design of all national park coins. It features the national emblem of China in the center, accompanied by the country's name and the year of issue, "2026".

Reverso: a complex and symbolic landscape

The reverse side offers a particularly rich composition that synthesizes the natural and cultural identity of Wuyishan.

The central element is the winding course of the Nine Meanders River (Jiǔqū Xī), which structures the scene and guides the eye through the landscape. Surrounding it unfolds a subtropical forest and tea plantations, inseparable elements of the region.

In the background appears the profile of Yunu Peak, one of the park's most recognizable formations, alongside distant mountains that add depth to the composition. The scene is completed with the depiction of a butterfly—the species Teinopalpus aureus —and tea leaves, which introduce an ecological and cultural dimension.

The legend “武夷山国家公园” (Wuyishan National Park) and the value “10元” complete the design.

Unlike other coins in the series, which are more focused on a specific animal species, this one opts for a broader visual narrative: landscape, biodiversity and traditional human activity coexist in the same scene.
