Last Wednesday, April 22, the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR) presented the penultimate issue of its "Emblematic Sites of Our Provinces" series, dedicated this time to the Arenal Volcano, one of the country's most iconic natural landmarks, located in the province of Alajuela. This new coin pays tribute to the region's rich landscape and geology.
The collection
This collection consists of seven ₡25 coins, each inspired by an iconic site in Costa Rica's provinces. The project aims to highlight the country's cultural and geographical heritage in each issue.
These are also presented in two versions with the same common design: a collector's coin with color application, and another version intended for regular circulation without color.
Coins from the collection
2. Puntarenas Lighthouse (Puntarenas)
3. Santa Rosa Mansion (Guanacaste)
4. The Fort (Heredia)
5. Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels (Carthage)
6. Arenal Volcano (Alajuela)
7. National Theatre (San Jose)
REVERSE
The reverse of the coin features the texts "Alajuela Province," "Arenal Volcano," and the year of the collection, "2023." The design highlights the imposing La Fortuna de San Carlos volcano, one of the most well-known nationally and internationally for its conical shape and also one of the most visited in the country.
