The National Mint and Stamp Factory – Royal Mint (FNMT-RCM) announces a very special issue for October 6th, a release that aims to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence by highlighting Spain's role in it. This new collection seeks to highlight the often-forgotten contribution of our country, which played a significant role.

A decisive contribution to American independence

During the conflict, Spain became a fundamental ally of the revolutionary cause. This support materialized not only on the battlefield, under the leadership of figures such as Bernardo de Gálvez, but also through decisive financial, logistical, and strategic assistance.
Spanish troops fought the British in key arenas, such as the Gulf Coast and the Mississippi Valley, while supplies, financing, and access to safe ports were sent from the peninsula and the colonies.

Figures such as King Charles III, Admiral Luis de Córdova and Gálvez himself, along with the economic contributions translated into the sending of large quantities of silver eight reales—the famous Spanish Milled Dollar, a direct precursor to the first US dollar—were essential pieces in the final victory.

The 2025-2026 commemorative series

The FNMT-RCM has prepared a series of 10 collector coins, including: a four-escudo coin with a face value of 200 euros, a fifty-euro coin with a face value of 50 euros, and eight eight-real coins with a face value of 10 euros.

This commemorative collection, which highlights historical figures and key episodes in Spain's contribution to American independence, will be released in two phases:October 6, 2025: Issue of the first three pieces.
First half of 2026: launch of the remaining seven coins.

The first coins in the series presented in this article feature George Washington, Charles III, and the Real de a Ocho, symbols of the union of the two nations at a decisive moment in history.
