Next Monday, June 12, the National Currency and Stamp Factory – Real Casa de la Moneda announces the issuance of two numismatic novelties. These are two products with a long tradition and demand among coin collectors and that I am going to present to you in this post.
The origin of the city dates back to the 1st century BC. C with the settlement of the Romans, although the first settlers date from the Upper Paleolithic. The interior layout reflects the typical irregularity of medieval times, with small streets and squares that hide beautiful facades of both religious and civil buildings. Numerous disputes over the occupation of this territory between Romans, Almohads, Jews, Portuguese and Castilians contributed to this architectural and cultural legacy.
The unique mix that occurs with these various influences and its historical importance led to the Old City of Cáceres being declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1949 and a World Heritage Site in 1986.
On the coin, a view of the Plaza Mayor of Cáceres is reproduced. At the top, in capital letters and in a circular direction, appears the legend SPAIN and the year of minting 2023; below, the mint mark. At the bottom, in capital letters and in a circular direction, appears the legend CÁCERES. Surrounding all the motifs and legends, in the outer circular area of the coin, the twelve stars of the European Union appear.
On the edge of the coin appears the inscription: «2 * *» repeated six times and oriented alternately from bottom to top and from top to bottom.
