The famous series of coins that The Perth Mint has dedicated since 2018 to the Australian emu, one of the protagonists of the national coat of arms of Australia, already has another issue. The new bullion piece launched this year with the emblematic bird will be available in one ounce, both pure gold and silver.

At 1.9 meters tall, the emu is the largest bird in Australia. Males are known to protect their young, kicking enemies away with their long, powerful legs, which they also use to zip across the arid plains of the continent at astonishing speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour.

On the back of both versions we appreciate the representation of an adult emu taking care of its three chicks in an arid environment in the interior. The inscription “AUSTRALIAN EMU”, The Perth Mint mintmark “P”, the year of issue “2023”, and the weight and purity of the coin are also included in the design.

On the common obverse we see an official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with the effigy of Jody Clark and the dates of her reign: “1952 – 2022”. The face value of the coin is also included on the obverse.
