Altăraș zoomorf

În a doua jumătate a lunii februarie 2026, Muzeul Județean Olt aduce în atenția publicului un vas de tip altăraș cu protome zoomorfe. Artefactul a fost descoperit în situl „Ogașul lui Ioniță Țiganul” de la Brebeni (jud. Olt), obiectiv arheologic de tip tell, cercetat în între 1964 și 1967 de către Mihail Butoi. Piesa se încadrează în perioada eneolitică, respectiv în cultura Sălcuța, și se păstrează în expoziția de arheologie din cadrul instituției.
𝐓𝐢𝐩: altăraș zoomorf
𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐭𝐢𝐩: altăraș cu două protome zoomorfe
𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐞: Altărașul a fost confecționat prin asamblarea a trei categorii de piese distincte: picioarele, vasul ceramic și protomele zoomorfe. Cele patru picioare sunt masive, au secțiunea aproximativ circulară și talpa ușor mai lată. Elementele plastice menționate au fost dispuse pe colțurile vasului ceramic și îl susțin. Vasul ceramic este oval la bază, în timp ce în partea superioară prezintă o formă cvasi-rotundă. Pe exteriorul buzei vasului, diametral opuse, observăm prezența a două protome zoomorfe. Modalitatea de redare a protomelor ar putea indica legătura acestora cu iconografia bovideelor. Aspectul general al altărașului ceramic este asemănător cu cel al vaselor de tip zoomorf.
Piesa a fost realizată manual din lut, în compoziția pastei fiind observate pietricele, cuarț mărunțit și urme de materiale organice. Arderea oxidantă a imprimat o culoare brun-cărămizie la interiorul și exteriorul altărașului ceramic. Artefactul, din pastă semifină și aspru la atingere, păstrează doar parțial urmele de lustruire, fiind întregit prin restaurare (restaurator: Ion Marinică).
𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭̦𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐚: Astfel de altărașe din lut ars au fost probabil utilizate în practici magico-religioase pentru fertilitate, viață și protecție, pentru libații ori în interiorul locuințelor, eventual asemenea unor opaițe. Această din urmă utilizare nu poate fi exclusă pentru altărașul ceramic, în interiorul vasului, pe fund, fiind vizibilă o pată neagră-cenușie, semn al unei arderi secundare.

In the second half of February 2026, the Olt County Museum brings to the publicʼs attention a small altar-type vessel with zoomorphic protomes. The artefact was discovered at the ‟Ogașul lui Ioniță Țiganul” site in Brebeni (Olt County), a tell-type archaeological site excavated between 1964 and 1967 by Mihail Butoi. The piece dates back to the Eneolithic period, specifically to the Sălcuța culture, and is preserved in the archaeology exhibition of the institution.
𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞: zoomorphic small altar
𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞: small altar with two zoomorphic protomes
𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The small altar was crafted by assembling three distinct categories of parts: the legs, the ceramic vessel, and the zoomorphic protomes. The four legs are massive, with an approximately circular cross-section and a slightly wider base. These plastic elements were placed at the corners of the ceramic vessel and support it. The ceramic vessel is oval at the base, while in the upper part it exhibits an almost round shape. On the exterior of the vesselʼs rim, diametrically opposed, we observe the presence of two zoomorphic protomes. The rendering style of the protomes might indicate their connection to bovine iconography. The general appearance of the small ceramic altar is similar to that of zoomorphic vessels.
The piece was handmade from clay, with the paste composition containing small pebbles, crushed quartz, and traces of organic materials. The oxidising firing imparted a brownish-brick colour to the interior and exterior of the small ceramic altar. The artefact, made of semi-fine paste and rough to the touch, only partially preserves traces of burnishing and has been completed through restoration (restorer: Ion Marinică).
𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Such small altars of baked clay were probably used in magical-religious practices for fertility, life, and protection, for libations, or inside dwellings, possibly as oil lamps. This latter use cannot be excluded for the small ceramic altar, as a blackish-grey stain, evidence of secondary burning, is visible on the inside bottom of the vessel.
