Italy has issued the second coin in its "Flora and Fauna" series, dedicated to the lily (Lilium), an emblematic flower that symbolizes purity and nobility. This numismatic collection celebrates the country's botanical richness, and following the release of the daisy coin in 2025, the lily becomes the new protagonist of this series.
The Lily: Symbol of Purity and Nobility
The lily, scientifically known as Lilium, is a flower deeply rooted in Italian culture, associated with purity, nobility, and renewal. Its selection for this coin highlights the importance of flora in national identity and its presence in Italian history and art.
The Coin
The coin features two images that pay homage to the natural world: a detailed representation of the lily and a splendid female face, personification of Italian flora, crowned by flowers and branches of olive and oak.
Obverse: Lily flowers are depicted in the center, with the scientific name "LILIUM" in the lower right. To the left are "2026," the year of minting, and "R," the mint mark of the Rome Mint. Around the edge is the inscription "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA." At the bottom is a decorative diamond and the inscription "S. CIUCCI," the signature of the designer on the obverse.
Reverse: In the center, the face of a woman with abundant hair and a crown of various flowers. To the left and right of the face are an olive branch and an oak branch, respectively. In the lower left, the face value is "0.25 euros". Around the edge, in the upper left, is the inscription "FLORA" and, in the lower right, "1 oz Ag 999" is separated by a diamond. At the bottom, "M. CIUCCI", the signature of the designer on the reverse.
