On March 19, 2026, Swissmint will issue a new 20-franc silver collector coin dedicated to Lake Geneva. This coin is the third in the "Swiss Lakes" series and pays tribute to Switzerland's largest lake as a unique natural and cultural heritage site in the heart of Europe.
With around 1,500 lakes and a dense network of rivers, Switzerland is considered a major water reserve in the heart of Europe. Its lakes not only shape the landscape but also provide habitat for numerous animal and plant species. At the same time, they are places of tranquility, leisure, and inspiration. With the "Swiss Lakes" coin series, Swissmint pays tribute to this extraordinary natural and cultural heritage, sending a clear message of its importance. The series will be completed in 2027 with the coin commemorating Lake Lucerne.
The obverse features an aerial view of Switzerland's largest lake. The surrounding landscapes are outlined with contour lines extending towards the edge of the coin. The lake's name appears in italics next to the image and blends harmoniously with the landscapes of the cantons of Geneva, Vaud, and Valais, as well as France.
On the reverse, all the special coins in the new "Swiss Lakes" series feature a striking graphic symbolizing Switzerland's role as Europe's main water reservoir. The edge of the coin displays the face value of 20 CHF, the inscription "CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA", the year of minting 2026, and the Swissmint mint mark B.
The coin will be released in a limited edition comprising 8,000 uncirculated quality coins in blister packs and 3,500 Proof quality coins presented in a case.
