Ukrainian culture takes center stage on the new commemorative coin issued by the National Bank of Ukraine on May 21 to mark the 65th anniversary of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize, Ukraine's most prestigious award in the cultural and artistic field.
CURRENCY
Reverse
The reverse of the coin features a portrait of the young Taras Shevchenko, framed by olive branches. The design also includes a decorative ribbon with plant motifs—a viburnum (kalyna) cluster with leaves—flanked by the inscription "Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine." The year the prize was established, 1961, appears in the lower left corner.
Obverse
The obverse features an artistic image of a muse cultivating a flowering plant, a symbol of Ukrainian culture and artistic spirit. To the right is the inscription "Do not abandon me, teach me..." (words from the poem "The Muse" by Taras Shevchenko). At the bottom of the design are the inscription "Ukraine," the year of minting "2026," the Small Coat of Arms of the State of Ukraine, and the face value.
