Relive the glamour of one of Hollywood's greatest legends with the new collection that the Monnaie de Paris is dedicating to Marilyn Monroe. Issued to coincide with the centenary of her birth, the series features five coins with the same design, commemorating the actress, singer, and model who became a universal symbol of glamour, talent, and popular culture.
DESIGN
Obverse
The obverse features a portrait of Marilyn Monroe accompanied by the year of issue, "2026." The background is decorated with numerous stars of varying sizes, a motif that can be interpreted as a reference both to the famous quote on the reverse of the coin and to the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a symbol of the legendary status the actress achieved. Completing the design, her name is inscribed at the top of the composition.
Reverse
The reverse side features several elements representing Marilyn Monroe's artistic career, most notably a film reel and a vintage microphone, symbols of her work in film and music. The design is completed with several embossed roses and the artist's signature, surrounded by her famous quote: "We are all stars and we deserve to shine." The coin also includes the face value and the initials RF of the French Republic.
