The 60 euro coin dedicated to Princess Leonor and her time at the General Air and Space Academy was one of the Spanish issues that attracted the most attention from collectors and the general public during the first half of 2026. Now, just a few days after its issue, the Royal Mint presents a new edition specifically aimed at the collector market.

This is the so-called Special Quality, a much more limited version than the regular issue, which will be available starting next Monday, June 22nd. Although it maintains the exact same design, its manufacturing process and small print run make it more exclusive.

A different minting for a limited edition

The main difference compared to the previously issued coin lies in the production process itself. These pieces have been minted on hand-fed presses, using dies that have undergone a special treatment, resulting in more refined finishes and superior visual quality.

In addition, the coin is presented in an attractive numbered triptych specially designed for this edition, with abundant information about the issue and the training stage of the Crown Princess at the General Air and Space Academy.

The maximum print run is set at just 2,000 copies, a very small number compared to the volume of the regular issue. The recommended retail price will be 85 euros.

Princess Leonor as the protagonist of the obverse

The obverse features a left-profile portrait of Princess Leonor wearing the uniform of the Spanish Air Force and Space. Surrounding the image are the legends "FELIPE VI KING OF SPAIN · 2026" and "PRINCESS LEONOR", while two stylized propellers complete the composition.

Beyond the official description, the coin conveys an image of institutional continuity and preparation for future responsibilities. The Princess's depiction departs from a youthful portrait to offer a more solemn and military image, befitting the formative stage she is undergoing within the Armed Forces.

The choice of profile is reminiscent of the great traditional portraits of numismatics, establishing an interesting bridge between the historical tradition of Spanish coins and a new generation destined to play a leading role in the future of the monarchical institution.

A tribute to the General Air and Space Academy

The reverse side is dedicated to the General Air and Space Academy of San Javier. It features a Pilatus PC-21 training aircraft depicted in color against a background of clouds, accompanied by the face value "60 EURO" and the circular inscription "GENERAL AIR AND SPACE ACADEMY".

The scene is notable for its dynamism. The airplane appears to emerge from the clouds with a pronounced sense of movement, something unusual in contemporary Spanish coinage. The red, yellow, and gray colors of the aircraft contrast with the silver background of the coin, making the plane the true visual focal point of the composition.

The clouds add depth to the scene and reinforce the aeronautical symbolism of the broadcast, evoking the environment in which the training of future Spanish military pilots takes place.

A currency that is gaining exclusivity

The original issue had already generated considerable interest by combining current events, institutional significance, and military training in a single piece. However, this new Special Quality version adds a component that is particularly appealing to collectors: scarcity.

With only 2,000 copies available and a distinctive presentation, this edition is shaping up to be one of the most select Spanish silver issues of 2026. An opportunity for those who wish to add to their collection a much less common variant of a coin that is already part of Princess Leonor's numismatic history.
