The Royal Mintha has issued a coin with a face of 5 pounds and minted in cupro-nickel, dedicated to Buckingham Palace, the administrative headquarters of the British monarchy in London.

Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the British monarchs in London. Formerly known as Buckingham House, the building was purchased by George III as a private residence for his wife, Queen Charlotte. Later, in 1826, George IV commissioned its conversion into a palace. The first British monarch to take up residence at Buckingham Palace was Queen Victoria, who also made the first recorded appearance on the Palace balcony after the opening of the Great Exhibition in 1851.

There are 19 state rooms at Buckingham Palace, most notably the Ballroom and the White Drawing Room, which the royal family uses for official, ceremonial and state occasions. Several royal weddings have been held at the Palace, including that of the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2011, along with national celebrations such as the Golden and Platinum Jubilees of Queen Elizabeth II. Following in his mother's footsteps, King Charles III also holds weekly meetings with the Prime Minister at Buckingham Palace.

On the reverse of the coin we can see a central representation of Buckingham Palace. Below this, there is the inscription in two lines "BUCKINGHAM PALACE". The composition appears framed by the pattern of the balustrade of the Grand Staircase, which is located inside the palace.

On the other hand, the obverse of the piece has the official portrait of monarch Charles III, created by Martin Jennings. Surrounding the bust are the inscriptions: face value of the coin (5 pounds), year of issue "2024", and the legend in abbreviated Latin "DG REX. FD» (Dei Gratia Rex) and (Fidei Defensor) (King by the grace of God and Defender of the Faith).
