The Bank of Lithuania announces the issuance of a silver collector's coin on March 28 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of its accession to NATO and the European Union.

Lithuania's accession to NATO and the European Union 20 years ago was a historic and decisive step in the country's quest for security and integration into the European community. After meeting all the conditions and criteria necessary for membership, on March 29, 2004, Lithuania officially became a member of NATO. This guaranteed not only military security, but also the confidence of foreign investors, who saw this step as a guarantee of stability and security.

The 20 years since Lithuania's accession to the European Union on 1 May 2004 are testament to the country's determination to become an integral part of the European family. Accession to the EU has opened up new opportunities for economic growth, educational development and social well-being, allowing Lithuanians to move, study and work freely throughout the EU. Furthermore, EU membership allows Lithuania to be part of the overall decision-making process that shapes EU policy and strategy.

In the center of the obverse of the coin appears the tricolor flag, a symbol of the independence of the Lithuanian State, which laid the foundations for becoming a full member of both NATO and the EU. The flag is surrounded by the coat of arms of the Lithuanian State, the Vytis (knight on horseback holding a sword and shield), the inscription "LIETUVA" (LITHUANIA), the denomination (20 euros), the year of issue (2024) and the mint mark of the Lithuanian Mint. Fragmented NATO and EU symbols represented at different levels appear on the background of the coin.

The tricolor flag appears in the center of the reverse of the coin. The flag is surrounded by NATO and EU symbols along with the dates of Lithuania's accession to NATO and the EU: March 29, 2004 and May 1, 2004. Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty written in microtext and the musical notes of the EU anthem: Ode to Joy from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
