Higher, faster, further: this is the path to the stars, Sic Itur ad Astra, this is the appropriate motto for one of Canada's most renowned institutions. Now in its centenary year (1924-2024), the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) continues to proudly serve Canadians and the world, participating in search and rescue missions and NATO training programs, in disaster relief and peacekeeping operations, and even providing space power support to the Canadian Forces, proving that the sky is no longer the limit for the Canadian Air Force.

This is how the new currency that will be issued in Canada on April 2 is presented, with which it continues the celebrations for the Centennial of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

This 99.99% pure silver piece pays homage to the distinguished history and heritage of the RCAF on its retro-style reverse, where the illustrative art style spans three different eras of RCAF aircraft history and captures the emotion to fly.

The reverse design, by artist David Moore, spans three different eras in the history of RCAF aircraft. Backed by angular shapes that convey speed and movement, two of the aircraft speak to the RCAF's past: on the left, the Camel flew as a fighter aircraft in World War I and as an advanced fighter trainer in the RCAF until 1929; and to the right, the Spitfire fighter flown in combat by RCAF squadrons overseas during the Second World War. The F-35 Lightning II, the inspiration for the lightning bolt in the background, features prominently in the foreground, where the fighter represents the RCAF's future fleet. The RCAF motto “ Sic Itur ad Astra ” is placed near the top, while the RCAF cockade is centered at the bottom.

On the other hand, the obverse of the piece shows the effigy of King Charles III created by the Canadian artist Steven Rosati, framed by the inscriptions of the monarch's name "CHARLES III", the legend in abbreviated Latin "DG REX" (Dei Gratia Rex ) (By the Grace of God, King) and the face value “20 DOLLARS”.
