Today we will know a coin issued by the Italian Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato issued at the end of last April. This piece commemorates the 100 Years of the Establishment of the Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise.
The Abruzzo National Park, established in 1923 and located between the regions of Molise, Abruzzo and Lazio, is a nature reserve in charge of protecting and preserving nature and the extinction of some wild animals.
Said natural space is among the oldest parks in Italy, and nationally recognized for its important role in the conservation of some species of Italian fauna, such as the Marsican brown bear, the Apennine wolf and the Abruzzo chamois. . Covered in almost two thirds of its surface by beech forests, it also has an extensive territory of mountains and pastures.
On the obverse of the coin there is a composition, with colored elements, of the representative fauna and flora of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise: the Venus Scarpetta, from the orchid family, currently in danger of extinction, the Apennine chamois, the golden eagle and the Marsican brown bear. In the background, we see one of the highest peaks of the Marsican Mountains, in the Abruzzo Apennines. In the upper part of the piece, the inscription «REPUBBLICA ITALIANA», and in the lower part, the signature of the author «AVecchio».
On the other hand, on the back, we see the official logo of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park on a decoration with beech leaves that characterize the vast forests that cover its mountains and its high rocky meadows. On the left, the face value "5 EURO", on the top right the year of issue "2023", and below the letter "R", identifier of the Rome Mint.
