The Bank of Hungary issues today, October 4, on the occasion of World Animal Day, a 2,000 guilder coin dedicated to the Mudi dog breed. This collector's coin, featuring the Mudi, is the fourth in the series of Hungarian hunting and herding dog breeds started in 2019, following the Hungarian Vizsla, Komondor and Hungarian Greyhound.

In 2004, all domestic dog breeds, including the Mudi, were declared a national treasure by the Hungarian Parliament. And in 2017, this sheepdog was incorporated into the Hungaricum Collection (a term that indicates a value worthy of typically Hungarian distinction and uniqueness), along with eight other native dog breeds.

The collector's coin dedicated to the Mudi follows the choice of motifs that characterizes the series: the dog is represented on the obverse as a single figure, while on the reverse it is set in a scene typical of the breed.

The central motif on the obverse is a side view of a Mudi with his head turned to the right. At the top, in a semicircular legend, appears the inscription "MAGYARORSZÁG" (Hungary); at the bottom, the denomination “2000” and the inscription “FORINT”, with the mint mark “BP.” on the left and the year of minting "2022" on the right.

The reverse of the coin shows a grazing scene: a shepherd and his dog with a flock of sheep grazing in the background. The word “MUDI” is inscribed in a semi-circular legend at the bottom, to the right is the master mark of the artist Áron Bohus, who designed the coin.

This collector's coin is made from an alloy of copper (75%), nickel (4%) and zinc (21%). It weighs 16 grams and has a diameter of 34 mm. The issue is limited to just 20,000 units, all in Proof quality.
