Last June, after a meeting in Brussels of the Heads of State and Government of the EU, it was agreed to grant the status of candidate country to the European Union to Ukraine. Dedicated to this reason, on October 31, the Bank of Ukraine will issue several coins with the same design.

These coins are issued in three different ways. One with a silver face of 10 hryvnias and the other two with a face of 5 hryvnias in alpaca alloy, some of which have a special presentation.

The Bank of Ukraine itself has just presented the issue of this coin with the following introduction: “Dedicated to granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership. Obtaining such a status is one of the important results of our long-term European integration path. The European Council summit, which took place on June 23, 2022, became historic, and the positive decision of the leaders of the European Union shows solidarity with Ukraine at this difficult time for our country."

The coin in its version of 5 hryvnias minted on an alloy of alpaca (German silver) will go on sale in two formats, loose coin or in special presentation. Between the two they add up to an issue volume of 75,000 pieces.

On the obverse of the coin, on a mirror background, there is a stylized image of the European continent, to the left of which is a decorative element in the form of a mosaic, symbolizing the diversity of peoples, cultures, the freedom to choose one's own destiny. , the absence of formal borders; on the European continent, the contours of Ukraine stand out, which, like a puzzle, complements the integrity of Europe and “returns” home, where it has always been indirectly present, starting with the dynastic ties of the kyiv state; on the right: the Coat of Arms of the State of Ukraine and the inscription UKRAINE (in a semicircle); the denomination is 5 or 10 hryvnias and the graphic symbol of the currency; the year of minting 2022 and the inscription ПОВЕРНЕННЯ ДОДОМУ (RETURN HOME), at the bottom.

On the reverse of the coin, against the background of stylized tridents, there is a map of Ukraine, decorated with a stylized national embroidery (colored in the 10-hryvnia version), framed by twelve stars, symbolizing the unity of the peoples of Europe. ; the inscription in the circle: НАДАННЯ СТАТУСУ КРАЇНИ-КАНДИДАТА НА ЧЛЕНСТВО В ЄС (AWARDING CANDIDATE COUNTRY STATUS FOR EU ACCESS).

The 10 hryvnia coin minted in silver will be presented in a case. Its issue volume amounts to 5,000 pieces.
