Sold out before it is issued, on October 12 the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato of Italy will issue a 5-euro bimetallic collectible coin with a face, to commemorate the “30th anniversary of the Carabinieri Anti-falsificazione Monetaria Command”, a police group responsible for the fight against counterfeit currency and credit card fraud, among others.

On October 19, 1992, in compliance with the Ministerial Decree of January 22, 1992, which, within the framework of the division of objectives between the different Police Corps, recognized the work of the Carabinieri Corps in the counterfeiting sector of currency, creating the Operational Unit against Counterfeiting Money, under the name of "Comando Carabinieri Banca d'Italia" .

On June 15, 1999, the unit was renamed "Comando Carabinieri Antifalsificazione Monetaria".

With the creation of this unit, it was intended to ensure a qualified presence of the Carabinieri at a national and international level in the delicate sector of prevention and fight against counterfeiting of currency. Its members were trained in the field of methodologies and procedures for the printing of banknotes, official documents and the minting of currency.

The counterfeits subject to its jurisdiction are: euro and foreign banknotes and coins, public securities, various types of credit and debit cards, checks, stamps, securities and documents.

On October 4, 2021, the "Cryptocurrency Section" of the Carabinieri Monetary Counterfeiting Command was created. The department's mission is to fight against emerging criminal dynamics related to the use of cryptocurrencies and the use of illegal computer platforms for the sale of counterfeit currency and other counterfeit products under the specific competence of this Command (identity documents, card data of payment and supports).
