A new country that we can now officially add to the list of States that will participate in the issuance of the common commemorative 2 euro coin of 2022, to commemorate the "35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Program", is Lithuania, which also it will have the lowest broadcast volume of all the countries that have already confirmed their broadcast for now. From the known information we can also highlight that the coins will be minted in France.
The motif on the obverse was chosen as the winner among six motifs proposed by the different Mint of the European Union, as a result of an Internet vote in accordance with the procedure recommended by the European Commission. Designed by Mr. Joaquín Jiménez, a French medalist who works for the Monnaie de Paris, it shows a mixture of two main elements of the Erasmus program: the original intellectual inspiration, Erasmus himself, and the allegory of his influence in Europe.
The first is symbolized by one of the most famous representations of Erasmus. The second is symbolized by a bundle of links that crosses the coin from one lighthouse to another, representing the numerous intellectual and human exchanges between European students.
As for Europe, some of these links form stars that result from synergies between countries. Figure 35, for the 35th anniversary, emerges from the stars in a contemporary graphic style.
The design of the coin differs in each state only in the arrangement and spelling of the country name or country code, Lithuania «Lietuva» has positioned its name in the center and just below the logo of the Lithuanian Mint. At the bottom we see the Pessac mint mark (Horn of plenty) and to the right the designer's mark, Joaquín Jiménez.
The edge of the coin, like all those issued by Lithuania in this value, has the legends: LAISVĖ * VIENYBĖ * GEROVĖ * (FREEDOM * UNITY * WELFARE *).
The issue volume for the Lithuanian currency will be 300,000 pieces and it will be issued, together with that of the rest of the countries, on July 1, 2022.
