Gastronomy is one of the elements that mark the culture of people and their peoples, with a recognized impact on the economy and tourism, but also on the way in which we relate socially, sharing knowledge, traditions and rituals around each plate. After all, "we are what we eat."

To celebrate the variety and richness of Portuguese culture and gastronomy, the Portuguese Mint has launched the series "Sabores de Portugal", which opens with a coin alluding to roasted sardines, a traditional dish from the Portuguese cuisine highly appreciated and always present at popular festivals. This collection of coins is signed by the designer Jorge Silva, creator of the iconic «Sardinhas de Lisboa».

The coin called «Sardinha Assada» has on its obverse, in the central core, the representation of a traditional grill with three colored sardines, and wrapping the design the indication of the face value, € 10, the representation of the national emblem as part of the legend "Portugal" and the year of issue "2020".

On the reverse, occupying the entire central field, a third of the sardine is represented, based on a high color contrast, symbolizing the physical transformation of the sardine during the roasting process, all surrounded by the legends «Sardinha Assada »Next to which the author's name« Silva »(Jorge Silva) and the legend« Casa da Moeda »appear.

Contrary to what the Portuguese INCM has accustomed us, there is only one version for this coin, which is presented as you see in the image.
