The truth is that thanks to numismatics every day I discover among many other things, stories and traditions, that if it had not been for my attraction to coins I would hardly have known. Today I present you a new coin that has made me know a type of beekeeping, now obsolete, but which has remained a tradition in some parts of Lithuania. "Tree beekeeping or beekeeping in trees". Under this name two coins are issued with the same design that I am going to show you, we will also delve into the history of beekeeping in general and this very particular one.

As you can see from the images, this new numismatic issue is made up of two coins with € 10 facials, minted in silver and with some colored notes, and the other, without renouncing the same design, of € 1.5, the latter minted on a cupro-nickel alloy and with a sale price in Lithuanian Banks of only 2 euros.

The obverse of the coins features the stylized shield of Lithuania known as " Vytis " which means "white knight" formed from a swarm of bees and a honeycomb filled with honey. The inscriptions are: LIETUVA (LITHUANIA), the year of issue (2020), the face value (€ 10 or € 1.5) and the mint mark of the Lithuanian Mint.

The reverse of the coin represents an ancient Lithuanian beekeeping tradition of collecting honey from the hollows of trees: after climbing a tree, a beekeeper, his head covered with a beekeeper's veil, is collecting honey alongside a swarm of bees . Also shown is the inscription DREVINĖ BITININKYSTĖ (BEEKEEPING IN THE TREES).
