In 2024 it will be 100 years since the death of the great Italian opera composer, Giacomo Puccini. To remember such a famous character, in Italy a coin is issued with a rectangular shape and colored on one of its sides.

This collector's coin has a facial value of 5 euros, although its sale price in Italy is 75, it has a limited circulation of 3,500 units and is minted in Proof quality.


On the obverse of the coin, within a frame in which the inscriptions "GIACOMO PUCCINI" and "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA" stand out, there is a portrait of Giacomo Puccini painted at the beginning of the 20th century by Luigi De Servi, a work preserved in the Puccini Museum from Lucca, birthplace of the Italian composer. At the bottom left and right are the dates "1924" and "2024", respectively, the year of Giacomo Puccini's death and the year the coin was issued.


The reverse shows the face of Turandot, the protagonist of Giacomo Puccini's opera of the same name, taken from a 1926 cover made by Leopoldo Metlicovitz for a deluxe edition by Ricordi for voice and piano. At the top, the inscription “CINQUE EURO”; at the bottom, the inscription "TURANDOT"; on the right, the signature of the author A.MASINI; On the left, the "R", identifying mark of the Rome Mint.
