In commemoration of its 50th anniversary, the Central Bank of The Bahamas has put into circulation, since June 3, a colored version of its 25 cent coin. The new currency, which maintains the specifications of the existing currency, will be the first colored circulating currency issued by the Central Bank of The Bahamas, and has the following features.
Round-shaped coin weighing 5.10 g and measuring 24.26 mm in diameter and 1.78 mm thick, has a serrated edge and bears the coat of arms of the Bahamas on the obverse along with the words “Commonwealth of The Bahamas ” which forms a crown around the coat of arms. The elements of the Coat of Arms are painted in blue, white, pink and green, highlighting the blue marlin, the flamingo and the conch. Below the Coat of Arms is the date.
On the reverse is an artist's depiction of a native sloop, soaked in red, white and brown paint, in a blue-painted sea, near an island, along with the words “THE CENTRAL BANK OF THE BAHAMAS”, “50th ANNIVERSARY 1974 -2024”, and “25 CENTS”.
The issuance volume of this colored coin has not been announced.
