The limitless creativity of Jean Paul Riopelle is celebrated with the issuance of a commemorative $2 circulation coin, an iconic tribute to an illustrious Canadian artist celebrating the centenary of his birth.

Of the 3 million coins that make up the issue, 2 million are colored. The coins are already being put into circulation throughout Canada.

On the reverse of the $2 coin, the inner core adapts selected elements from Panel 29 of Jean Paul Riopelle's L'Hommage à Rosa Luxemburg , while the outer ring bears the “Riopelle100” centennial mark (courtesy of the Riopelle Foundation ).

The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II made by Susanna Blunt. The obverse also bears a special mark that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have adorned Canadian coins and the double date of her reign.
