The Perth Mint Australia has today unveiled the design of one of its most internationally recognized investment coins in its 2023 version, the Kookaburra (Kookaburra). In this, as every year, the bird of the same name is represented in a different way.

First issued in 1990, the Australian Kookaburra is a series of silver bullion coins featuring images of the iconic bird. The kookaburra, a regular guest in Australian gardens, is the largest member of the kingfisher species. Coming together at dusk and dawn to declare territorial boundaries with shrill, cackling laughter, this bird has been and is idolized in contemporary Australian art and literature.

The Kookaburra 34th Edition design depicts two birds perched on branches surrounded by the Waratah flower, a native Australian flower. The design incorporates the inscription 'KOOKABURRA', the traditional 'P' mintmark of the Perth Mint, the date 2023 and the weight and purity of the coin.

The coin depicts Jody Clark's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.

Minted in 99.99% pure silver, it is issued in sizes of 1 kilo, 10 ounces and 1 ounce.

The issue volume is 500,000 for the one-ounce coin and for the rest it is unlimited.
