The great Alberto Sordi, one of the symbols of Italian cinema, is the protagonist of the new coin issued on July 20 by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato of Italy. It is a bimetallic and facial type piece of 5 euros belonging to the Great Italian Artists series.
Sordi, born on June 15, 1920, represented, like no other, with his caricatured interpretations, the image of the vices and virtues of the Italians. He participated in nearly two hundred films as an actor and twenty as a director.
The obverse of the coin features the portrait of actor Alberto Sordi depicted within a film frame. All around, the inscription "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA".
The reverse of the coin shows a series of representative elements of the cinematographic world: a clapperboard, a camera and a film frame; around, the inscription "ALBERTO SORDI". Above, within the composition, the date “2022”, the year of issue of the coin, and the value “5 EURO”; on the right, “R”, which identifies the Rome Mint; below, the name of the designer "MOMONI".
