On July 11, 1982, Italy defeated Germany in the final of the World Cup that was played in Madrid, achieving the third of the four world championships with which the "azzurra" squad has. One of the most outstanding players of that World Cup and Boot and Ballon d'Or was Paolo Rossi, the "Golden Bambino" scored 6 goals, one of them opened the scoring for the final and the way for Italy to become three-time champion.
40 years after that feat, the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato of Italy wants to honor with an unconventional coin, it is rectangular, the achievement of the World Soccer Championship and a world soccer legend, the ill-fated Paolo Rossi, who died on the 9th of December 2020 at 64 years old.
The obverse depicts a soccer goal with a ball inside the net; above, three stars with the colors of the Italian flag. At the top and to the right, the inscriptions "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA", "ITALIA CAMPIONE DEL MONDO" and the date "1982", the year in which Italy won the Soccer World Cup in Spain.
On the reverse we see Paolo Rossi, one of the most important scorers and players of the 1982 World Cup, depicted in a gesture of joy in the foreground on a globe. Above and below, 22 stars representing the players called up for the Soccer World Cup. On the left, the face value “5 EURO”; on the right, the “R”, which identifies the Rome Mint, the date “2022”, the year of issue of the coin, and the name of the designer “A Vecchio”; on the exergue, the inscription "PAOLO ROSSI".

The coin was issued yesterday, July 6, although it was already sold out before leaving. Its presale price was 60 euros in Italy.
