Within the Roman Emperors series, the Italian Mint, Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, has issued this year's coin dedicated to Constantine I, also known as Constantine the Great. It is a gold coin minted in Proof quality with a limited mintage of 1,200 copies.

Constantine was emperor of the Romans from his proclamation by his troops on July 25, 306, ruling a constantly growing Roman Empire until his death on May 22, 337. He was the first emperor to stop the persecution of Christians and give freedom of worship to Christianity, along with all other religions in the Roman Empire. He is known as the first Christian emperor, although he was baptized in the last days of his life.

One of the curious notes about this emperor occurred on March 7, 321, in Rome, when Constantine issued an edict declaring that Sunday had to be the day to rest, something that is maintained today in most of the countries of the world.

The obverse of the coin shows the head of Constantine taken from the colossal marble statue from the apse of the Basilica of Maxentius in Rome and exhibited in the Palazzo dei Conservatori, seat of the Musei Capitolini, surrounded by the inscriptions "ITALIAN REPUBLIC" and the legend "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES" (With this sign you will conquer); in the exergue, the name of the designer «U. PERNAZZA »(Uliana Pernazza).

On the reverse, in the foreground, the Winged Victory, a detail of the Arch of Constantine in Rome dedicated to this Roman Emperor to celebrate his victory over Massenzio at the Battle of Ponte Milvio. Above, «10 EVRO» and «R», identifying the Mint of Rome; on the right, the year of issue of the coin «2021» and below it «CONSTANTINVS».
