The Royal Canadian Mint would like to honor with the issuance of a coin the Avro CF-105 Arrow military aircraft, an aviation marvel that was designed and built in Canada. In the 1950s, this supersonic aircraft was advertised as the fastest and highest flying interceptor (a type of fighter aircraft specifically designed to intercept and destroy enemy aircraft). It was, and still is, an inspiring symbol of Canadian ingenuity and engineering excellence, especially in this 99.99% pure silver coin, which honors the innovators whose ideas served as the foundation for the Arrow's achievements.
Designed by Canadian artist Stephen Quick, the reverse of the coin is inspired by the technical drawings of the Avro CF-105 Arrow. It features a combination of cross-sectional plans and three-view drawings, while the Arrow's perspective rendering shows the beauty of the aircraft design. To complete the flat look, laser etched grid lines fill the field on both the reverse and obverse, featuring the Queen Elizabeth II effigy by Susanna Blunt.
