The tenth coin in the American series "American Innovation" dedicated to the State of Virginia recognizes the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel-Bridge, Inaugurated in 1964. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is a link between Norfolk and the Cape Charles, in the Atlantic Ocean, Virginia, in the eastern United States.

The total length of the Cheeapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is 26 kilometers and the width of the carriageway on which vehicles travel is slightly less than 30 feet. One of the main difficulties that this large infrastructure had to face is that it is built in an area of great depth.

This marvel of civil engineering has two tunnels, two viaducts and four artificial islands. The tunnels were manufactured in a workshop by parts and transported by pontoons to the place where they would be placed.

This unique structure is considered the largest bridge-tunnel complex in the world and was designated as one of the seven engineering wonders of the modern world.

The reverse design depicts a cross-sectional view of the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel, illustrating the ingenuity of its construction.
